Desperate battles rage along the Baltic. Russia mobilizes its entire forces as the front lines shift. Mexican border clashes persist with insurgents and deputy sheriffs exchanging gunfire in ongoing combat.
Troops under General Benjamin Garza occupied Piedras Negras across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass. Villa forces evacuated the city and fled to surrounding hills. In Brownsville deputies traded fire with Mexican bandits across the river near Mission, with casualties reported. Authorities investigate a surge of Mexicans from Matamoros and suspected infiltrations linked to the San Diego plan.
London indicates Britain will accept informal representations by the State Department trade advisers to release American owned goods of German and Austrian origin held at neutral ports under the British Order in Council. Ambassador Page said negotiations will resume and work out details in three or four days, including contract timing and continuing authority for shipments.

The case involves E C Carell who claimed him as his son and a network of relatives and guardians who say otherwise.

A newlywed couple, George Windler and his bride of a few days, died instantly in a car crash near Congers N Y. Three men and a woman, including chauffeur William Curran, were seriously injured as they returned from a West Haverstraw dance. The injured could not explain the crash. authorities believe the car skidded on a sharp turn and struck an embankment.
A 48 inch water main at Eighth street and Eggleston avenue burst at 2 a m, cutting water to downtown and toward Price Hill. Fire Chief Bunker warned businesses to conserve water an hour later as the break caused significant damage.
Special Cable reports from Sorrento Italy that Mlle Odilia Van Welderen 22 daughter of Baron Van Welderen Rengers Dutch Minister to Italy and Count Gioffredo Gaetani Dell Aquila Aragona were found dead in the Count's villa near Nearby Beach A letter in the room said they could not live without each other and preferred to die.
A severe earthquake struck San Salvador and Guatemala. Jutiapa the Guatemalan capital of its department lies ruined. Santa Ana reports a few casualties. Churches in Santa Ana Sonsonate and other villages are in ruins. Jutiapa sits 45 miles southeast of Guatemala City, a center for cattle and coffee trade with about twelve thousand residents.
Princess Adalbert, wife of Germany’s third prince, is reported to have given birth to a daughter who died shortly after birth. The mother’s condition is described as satisfactory. The couple married August 26, 1914, with Adalbert holding naval rank as captain and army major since March this year.
Dr Constantin Dumba Austrian ambassador faced a failed mission at the State Department. He offered a weak defense and left nervously at 4 35 pm promising a possible leave of absence or return to Austria. He suggested a plan to use legal means to disrupt munition output, awaiting a written memorandum for the President.
