SIMLA September 7 Three regiments of cavalry four regiments of infantry and three batteries of field artillery have been formally warned to prepare to depart stations in India for service in South Africa. Hospital outfits have received similar orders.

The 33rd National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic elected Colonel Albert D. Shaw of Watertown New York Commander-in-chief by unanimous vote after initial contest. Judge Bassieur withdrew to expedite business, and Irving Robbins Indianapolis was elected Senior Vice Commander-in-chief with Minton Louisville as Junior Vice Commander. Other officers named included William H. Baker Lynn Mass surgeon general and Jacob L. Grimm Maryland chaplain-in-chief.

James J. Dailey, 59, foreman of the Public Ledger composing room, dies of apoplexy at 2323 Oxford Street Philadelphia. He founded a fund with a $10,000 gift in 1886 to aid aged destitute printers, leading to a Colorado Springs home. he served as treasurer of its trustees and was a longtime Typographical Union leader. He is survived by his widow and three sons.
The wedding of Arthur Draper of Hopedale Mass to Lily Duncan Vorheis occurred at the Episcopal Cathedral in Lexington with Bishop Burton officiating. General Draper presented a $5,000 check as a gift. The couple will reside in Cambridge Mass where the groom studies at Harvard Law School.

In a Fair lawn sandstone quarry west of Akron Ohio a blast exposed a cave mouth. Inside lay two feet of loam and numerous bones including a prehistoric man over eight feet tall. Also found were bear fox deer wolf remains and rude pottery with a mortar and pestle.
The Thirty third annual Fat Man's Association dinner was held at Gregory's Point Norwalk on Sept 7. From over 200 members the group has dwindled to about a dozen with Patrick Murphy of Saugatuck named permanent President. Rear Admiral Schley was elected an honorary member, though consent in advance is unclear.
