Railroads plan a new Union Depot in St. Paul and will reroute the Mississippi channel to gain land for ample terminal facilities. The decision was announced after a meeting of a general citizens committee with railroad heads.
The United States ordered American marines to withdraw from Bluefields Nicaragua as order returns, with deployment back to their regular station in the isthmian canal zone.
Rochester news reports Breckenridge Jones president of the Mississippi Valley Trust Co of St. Louis was arrested in Cazenovia for contempt of court after disobeying a supreme court order to appear as a witness in the United States Independent Telephone case now on trial.
Chicago dispatch reports defense chief counsel W. & Forrest wrapped up closing arguments in the second Lee O'Neil Browne bribery trial. Tomorrow morning attorneys O'Donnell and Erbstein will speak for the defense, with State's Attorney Wayman to deliver closing remarks on Monday before the jury retires.
In Graceville Florida on September 2 two bodies were found hanging from a trestle near the town. Hol Christian a Black man accused of shooting Deputy Sheriff Alen Burns and Hattie Bowman a Black woman arrested as an alleged conspirator were discovered.
Two Erie railroad passenger train workers died in a head on collision on a single track near Ariel in Scranton Pa. Engineer Dan Smith and fireman John B. Miller were killed. Several passengers were injured in the afternoon crash on Sept. 2.
In Wheeling West Virginia Antonio Gonzella was found stabbed sixty times beneath a bridge over the Ohio River. Identifying marks were removed and the body was claimed at the morgue hours later. Black Hand agents are suspected of the murder.
Commission officials led by P. C. Marsh examine Adams Express Company ledgers at Pearl and Butler streets to study express rates and business methods. The inquiry, part of a nationwide audit of express firms, aims to extend to telegraph companies after completing the express probe. County auditors suggest the Adams exam will take about a week.
