F E Wheeler an agent for Benefit Mutual Life Insurance shot and killed Philip Myers a saloon keeper in Lorain Ohio after Myers allegedly insulted him over a due bill Wheeler bought a 38 caliber revolver at Chapman Hill hardware and fired three shots Myers died within minutes Wheeler confessed to the doctor and was jailed Wheeler had been drinking all day and had recently moved from Cleveland where his wife reportedly lives
Philip Jeans aged 62 died at his Hillsboro home after a long illness. He was probably the oldest Mason in Ohio, having joined the order sixty two years ago in Illinois.

Eminence Ky Sept 2 The toll gate on the Eminence and Clear Creek turnpike about one and a half miles from town was blown up again last night by unknown parties. The tollhouse suffered considerable damage as dynamite has been used three times after the gate had been cut down twice previously.
Mrs. Jackson wife of U S Judge John J Jackson is severely ill after a heavy truck struck her carriage causing her horse to bolt. Doctors fear a burst blood vessel and her life is despaired of. Judge Jackson is in the East and has been telegraphed for.
Col Bernard A. Byrne’s Sixth Infantry seized Argogula, a steep 1000 foot hilltop fort near Negros, after fierce fire. About 400 native rebels contested the ascent. twenty-one of them were killed and many wounded. The Americans gained stores and wrecked fortifications amid casualties. A Manila Shipping Commissioner was arrested for embezzling and blackmailing sailors. The Official Gazette cited Aguinaldo ordering Spanish prisoners to repatriation ports San Fernando Union and Dagupan under flags of convenience. Jamesilla seeks Otis permission to send ships.
Major Hartmann testified on whether the term formations referred to wartime or peacetime. He argued only first bureau officers could have known the July 4, 1894 changes if wartime formations were involved, while maneuvers at Chalons Camp could explain others.
