Montagu Holbein began a fourth attempt to swim the English Channel from Dover at 6 50 p m. He started from South Foreland after a tug carried him ashore and will be aided by support boats with nourishment as he aims for the French coast in sixteen to eighteen hours under favorable tide and wind conditions.
Staff Captain Escott describes Breathitt County Kentucky as Gunfire atmosphere with frequent revolver shooting during his visit. He notes residents are friendly yet habitually armed and plans Mountain Brigade meetings in Cincinnati and Kentucky with a two week horseback itinerary.
Indianapolis Sept 1 President Barry of the Central Labor Union submitted to D M Parry national president of the Manufacturers Association a list of questions about unions. Parry answered that lawful union activity is acceptable but warned that illegal acts by unions threaten liberty and restore feudal conditions. He condemned strikes violence and intimidation aimed at workers and emphasized unions must act within the law.
Detective Thomas J. Howard and messenger Louis Houillion were ordered arrested by Judge Kavanagh for detaining Walter B. Hoyt after a court warning. Chief Deputy Peters and Assistant State's Attorney Barnett were also cited as to why they should not be held in contempt. Houillion had gone to Chicago to return Hoyt to Cincinnati where Hoyt faces swindling charges. Hoyt has prior similar offenses.
Mr and Mrs James Dressler of Indianapolis wed and miss the 3 50 pm train home from Chicago. At Stratford Hotel the barefoot bride hurried to the desk while valuables and luggage vanished as the couple sped to catch an expressman and the next train.
Val Meyer a cigar maker aged about 30 living at 68 East McMicken Avenue was killed yesterday afternoon at a Sand Fishing Club camp on the Miami River near Branch Hill Ohio when an iron cannon about eighteen inches long exploded. He died about two hours after the 4 pm blast with a hand injury from a piece of iron. A Loveland physician arrived about 6 pm and said the shock caused death. coroner Weaver directed the body be taken to Cincinnati. Meyer was married, a hunchback, and well known in the Rhine district.
Albert Wiley, driver for Frank Krug, a local ice dealer, leaped onto a frightened horse and restrained it after being dragged 100 feet. The horse, owned by Leo Flountz, was spooking at Fifth and Sycamore as Flountz gathered mail, then halted at Fourth and Walnut to a cheering crowd of 400 to 500.
A Turkish force attacked Stoilovo north of Malkoternovo, drove out insurgents, then massacred the population and destroyed the village. Ferdinand remains at Euxinograde with Premier Petroff.

Burgess eloped with McQuaid the day before her August 1 wedding to William Hays of Baltimore in Cincinnati. McQuaid had been engaged to a local woman who was distressed upon hearing of the marriage.
Mrs. Katherine Blau files for divorce from Edward Blau claiming ten years of lack of support, frequent whipping and choking, and a Cleveland lover who sent gifts. She says Blau left the city last January and may be in Cleveland, with attorney Charles W. Rattermann representing her.
Otsego Michigan report says Duncan Swan, a farmer north of Otsego, discharged a shotgun at what he mistook for moving stalks in a corn patch. His daughter Mary Swan was wounded in the breast and died the following night.
Joseph Strehle station house keeper at the Third District Police Station suffered a paralytic stroke shortly before 11 last night and was taken to his home at 2233 Victor Street in serious condition. He is 68 years old.
