In Richmond Kentucky on September 1 1919 former Climax editor Clarence E Woods and ex County Judge French Tipton clashed after a heated dispute over municipal ownership of the water and light plant. Tipton attacked Woods stabbing him and Woods fired back then Tipton died from a gut wound. Both men are prominent in Madison County society and Woods had quit the Climax over prohibition of his anti corporation articles.
Thomas Dehay of Arizona plans to urge federal action to deport Apaches from Arizona to Oklahoma saying they are not wanted in either state. Dehay travels to Washington to press his case despite having an Apache wife.
Washington September 1 General Otis has been chosen to fill the post of commanding officer of the Department of the Lakes. The position will be vacant next Monday due to General Jos Wheeler's retirement. It is believed General Chaffee will succeed Wheeler as brigadier general.

Two masked robbers forced entry at night six miles north of Ashland to Mrs. Mary Lehdighs home. They bound the woman and her daughter, ransacked the house, seized money, and fled toward Wellington before vanishing in a sheep‑tracked road. Local officials traced the trail but lost it near Wellington.
Glasgow health authorities report 83 people under observation for plague symptoms. A second reception house is opened as new suspect is admitted while some early cases show improvement and hospital care continues.
In Flint Michigan on September 1 Mrs William Newton 26 wife of Judge Newton shot herself at home after years of a troubled marriage. Doctors say bullet cannot be removed and she will not recover. The couple have a four year old son. Neighbors say the act stemmed from an unbearable personal crisis despite family statements that it was accidental.
Alonzo Willard, 50, operator at a portable sawmill near Sandy Lake, four miles south of Ravenna Ohio, fell onto the saw and suffered severed limbs and abdominal injuries. He died before an ambulance arrived. He leaves a widow and two children.
President McKinley remains in Washington as China talks compel him to stay. The White House has prepared for a possible trip to Canton but with Mrs. McKinley’s health and the China negotiations, authorities now expect departure to be postponed to mid next week.
In Columbus Ohio on September 1 Katie Sheaf, age seven, was blinded in the left eye after a quarrel with John Summers, a twelve-year-old son of a policeman, who threw ammonia. The incident followed a dispute between the children.
