Copenhagen August 31 The tourist steamer Freya broke moorings near Hoejur during the Jutland hurricane and landed two hundred passengers safely tonight. The storm battered the vessel, caused widespread flooding on Mano island, and left Esbjerg boats missing as dikes broke and communications failed.
Indiana Governor Warren T. McCray faces a voluntary assignment plan or a five member creditors committee to manage and liquidate his holdings. Assets total 3,223,000 with liabilities of 2,652,000, and the plan could extend for two years with possible renewal.
A negro porter in the When Store on West Seventh Street led Central Station officers through the store interior in pursuit after a late night robbery attempt. The suspect climbed roofs, entered the second floor, and was shot in the leg and shoulder. he fled to General Hospital then to Central Police Station as Ben Brown, 28, of McFarland Street.
The Associated Press reports 53 government candidates and 42 Republicans elected to Dail Eireann with government expected to win around 60 seats and Republicans about 42 once final totals arrive. Independents hold 16 seats, Labor 14, Farmers 12. Finucane Lynch named Fisheries Minister. Sean McPartlin elected in Tipperary while serving a ten year penal sentence in Scotland for arson in the area.
The American Bar Association closes its forty sixth annual meeting in Minneapolis with adoption of a resolution urging U S participation in the permanent Court of International Justice in The Hague and the unanimous election of Robert E Lee Saner of Dallas Texas as ABA President He succeeds John W Davis New York. Other officers also elected and the next convention city to be London by midwinter committee choice.
In New York Aug 31 two bandits shot and killed George Miller paymaster for Stratford Lumber and Coal Co during a holdup in Astoria They fled without obtaining the 1400 payroll Iller was shot in the stomach and chest while defending the money bag and died en route to the hospital
A Chilean sailor Jua Gonzales was killed in a Greenwich Village tearoom on West Seventh Street when four bandits robbed patrons. The gunmen darkened the area by turning off street lights before entering and escaping with money.
Robert A. Edmeston of Cleveland sues Charles Fahr of Meadville for 100000 damages alleging Fahr caused his five year incarceration in an insane institution. The suit was filed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with Edmeston claiming harm from the alleged action.
Steubenville Ohio August 31 A traveling salesman Sim Kepley 37 of Cincinnati slipped from Jefferson County Jail during a mass escape as Sheriff Edward Lucas and deputies worked to block multiple prisoners. A hole punched in the wall with tools from a broken cot aided the breakout involving 39 men.
Forty five penitentiary guards in Columbus Ohio decided to remain at their posts after a meeting with Warden P. E. Thomas following the State Emergency Board's rejection of a 20 percent wage increase. The warden appealed to their sense of duty and warned of public impact if they walked out. Guards, responsible for 20–25 men each, remained on duty as prisoners were locked in cells.
Reported dispatch states former Crown Prince Frederick William asks to return to Germany and that the Prussian Cabinet may permit residence in Castle Ochis near Breslau.
Walter Jones age 24 is arrested by detectives Robert Gernhardt and Alexander Genter at the Bethel Hotel for an alleged hold-up and shooting. He denies the charge but remains in custody for investigation and company holdings.

Military control seizes arms, with seven masked abductors attacking W. J. Matthews. he escaped but sustained a broken rib. Oklahoma guardsmen ordered to Tulsa to bolster security amid mob activity in Perth Amboy Klans clashes.
Police halted a riot at a Kansas City meeting after Mrs Esther Freedman of New York spoke in the Social movement. Nine people, including the speaker, were arrested during the disturbance following the address.
John Carter aged 16 arrived at Leavenworth after riding from St Joseph Missouri toward San Francisco at about ten miles per hour. The start in St Joseph drew thousands as Robert Shepherd led the relay race along the historic route with a special ferry boat to Kansas shore and relays toward Troy and Elwood Kansas.

About 1,500 to 2,000 orphans, Greek and Armenian from Smyrna, are under Near East Relief care.
