In Pittsburgh on October 29 Judge Nathaniel Ewing jailed Captain Henry R Kraft of the steamer Bessie Smith for one hour after he said to help with the President of the United States. Kraft entered jail at 1 PM and was released an hour later. He had threatened a U S Marshal previously when the officer attempted to serve a legal paper aboard. The court showed mercy and Kraft expressed repentance.
