Greek forces halt withdrawal from Macedonia as Bulgarian forces suspend fire amid Balkan crisis with international implications. Authorities coordinate with allies to deescalate tensions and seek regional stability.
The Greek legation quoted a Athens Foreign Office cablegram saying Greek forces in Macedonia were ordered to suspend withdrawal until Bulgarian firing ceases. The telegram, addressed to the League of Nations, accuses Bulgarian detachments of last night’s attack near frontier post 73 on the Petritch and Ramna Railroad.
Paris reports the League of Nations may establish a neutral zone between Greece and Bulgaria to regulate Balkan disputes. The move could push broader Balkan security pacts, Locarno follow ups, and a forthcoming disarmament conference, with the council aiming to curb future tensions.
In New York on October 28 masked gunmen robbed a box car shipment from Hollywood carried by Jesse Lasky of the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation. Four barrels of silver and fourteen barrels of pre war vintage liquor worth $10,000 were taken. The thieves forced railway guards into an empty car and dumped the guards remained unharmed but the liquor and silver were seized. Mrs Lasky said a government permit covered the transfer.

In Parkersburg West Virginia on October 28 an attack on Walker Smith a Harris Ferry farmer and his family followed by arson killed Claude Smith the son and left Smith and his wife seriously injured. The father had a fractured skull and was struck while asleep.
Mrs. G. W. Lincoln aged 60 was killed instantly when an automobile from Hillisboro New Hampshire collided with a Chesapeake and Ohio train near Beaver Dam forty miles from Richmond Virginia. Her husband was seriously injured but the doctors in Richmond held out hope for his recovery.
Chief Justice Taft dedicates Alphonso Taft Hall the law college building of the University of Cincinnati in a ceremony with honorary degrees for William Howard Taft and Carrington T. Marshall. The address urged expanded university offerings and envisioned future schools and arts programs.
