Melilla Oct 27 The Sultan's forces report a victory in a border skirmish near Mullaya. Meanwhile strong anti foreigner agitation is said to be under way in Morocco City.
The Spanish cruiser Dona Maria de Molina departed Cadiz for Arzilla Morocco to evacuate Spanish subjects whose lives are at risk due to insurgent tribesmen occupying the town.
Paris reports the Moroccan authorities will send a Kadi to Tafaleht to calm fanatical tribes and deter a holy war after Ramadan. The Jeanne d Arc to Tangier with 300 marines follows brigands capturing two Europeans, as Spain also acts under the Algeciras accord to police Morocco.

A misread signal by a Durbin Station operator near Springfield Iowa allowed Freight No. 90 to crash into eastbound No. 99 on the Big Four Peoria & Eastern Division. New York December 27. Louis G Hampton Assistant Secretary of the United States Trust Company shot and killed Victoria I Taczkow in the Hotel Griffin West Ninth street and then committed suicide. Hampton aged about 60 leaves a wife and two children. Taczkow 29 lived with her father and invalid mother and worked at a Fifth avenue department store. The trust company is one of the citys largest institutions.

Director Oliver says state law requires a separate school for Oriental children and that exclusions are not happening. A Tokyo cable confirms the issue is local and that the U.S. will protect Japanese treaty rights while Justice investigates.

Marcus Braun announced the president’s message stating Roosevelt is for Hughes and urging supporters to spread the declaration with emphasis. The address was met with applause as Braun carried the response to Washington.
