A Zeppelin delay keeps the airship grounded until this morning for the Cincinnati and Midwest route. Five passengers including a woman are listed for the return journey, with details of the voyage to be announced.
Dr Hugo Eckener announced the Graf Zeppelin will delay its Cincinnati and Midwest voyage until weather reports arrive tomorrow morning. An eighteen mile cross hangar wind influenced the decision. Captain Ernst Lehmann said the delay could last at least twenty four hours and plans for the Midwest cruise may be abandoned if conditions worsen.
Columbus Oct 25 Republican campaign headquarters denied distributing reprints of The Xavier News praising Myers Y. Cooper for his support of Xavier College. Inquiries rose from former Klan strongholds as Democrats accused Republicans of the action, while Republicans and Cooper traveled with Senator Curtis.
Tracy California near Stockton sees a robbery of a postal truck carrying $28,000 in registered mail destined for the Bank of Italy Tracy branch. Testimony at a conspiracy trial ties the murder of Octavius Granady to enemies aware of plans hours before he was shot in the Twentyeth Ward. Witnesses say Beecher warned Granady’s circle to leave for the day, while others describe hired voting at polling places for the America First ticket and promises of protection for disorderly houses.
Former Congressman Charles S. Wharton was sentenced to two years in Leavenworth Penitentiary by Judge James H. Wilkerson on conspiracy related to the February $133000 Evergreen Park mail train robbery. A stay until November 19 was granted and Wharton may appeal.
John Postle, 22, restaurant owner, shot and killed his wife Helen, 21, at her parents home and then killed himself. Police cite domestic trouble as cause. The couple had two young children present in the home. Postle’s body lay in the kitchen, his wife in the dining room.
In Philadelphia a 35 year old woman, Tola Swain formerly of Wichita Kansas, killed herself with a .32 caliber revolver on the second floor bedroom of a home where wedding gifts filled the room. She left a note saying I have nothing to live for please forgive me. Invitations had been issued and guests waited at Calvary Episcopal Church for the ceremony.
In Ipswich Massachusetts Frederick Beck Patterson millionaire head of Dayton Ohio NCR marries Armena Wood Gorman widow of E Hoffman in a quiet ceremony at the Presbyterian Church Patterson and his first wife had earlier divorce suits amid society gossip.
Eight dressmakers at the Elnor-Mae shop on 15 East Eighth Street frantically stitched a wedding gown for Miss Jane Peck after thieves stole the original gown and a bridesmaid dress amid a $2,500 burglary. Police say the break in used a ground floor entry and a duplicate key. Mrs Aker and Mrs Schroeder vow replacements to preserve the wedding.
In Forsyth Montana Mrs. Ralph Abbott 50 a Howard High School assistant principal and five school children died when her car was struck by a freight train at the Northern Pacific crossing ten miles west of Forsyth. Three others were injured including Mary Sian Margaret Robinson and George Abbott.
Leroy R. Hafen 35, curator of the Colorado State Museum, was charged with mashing by policewoman Edith Barker after she alleged he tried to hold her hand in a theater. Hafen denied the charge and was released on bond an hour after his arrest.
Cornelius Crowley of Monroe tried to end his life by hanging from a lamppost on Newburgh's main street in view of Officer Jerry Whittaker and a crowd. The officer cut the rope and saved him. Crowley was jailed for ten days for public intoxication.
