Pittsburgh dispatch reports a jealous young woman from Crafton may have written a letter that provoked Dr Ellis Duncan to confront Bruce Head. Head’s 19 year old friend was suspected of rivalrous interest in Mrs Duncan. District Attorney Haymaker warned of prosecution regardless of Head’s outcome.
State Fire Marshal reports an indictment against Rev William Dawson Monroe Furnace Jackson County for arson and robbery related to burning a mine store in May. Also charged are his sons John and Henry their wives Kate and José their sister Nan and William Brown. The family allegedly operated in the mine for twenty years.
Vienna reports Archduke Franz Ferdinand plans to renounce his claim in favor of his 15 year old nephew Carl Franz Joseph. Reporters say the rumor lacks credibility and may be unfounded.
Evansville jury after three ballots found Chet Sherwell not guilty of strangling his wife. Court crowd and Sherwell shown calm reactions. he faces two other murder charges pending. Prosecutors faced a weak case amid strong defense claims of lack of motive and circumstantial evidence.
Special Despatch reports Wall Street speculation that J Pierpont Morgan aims to form a national lighting trust. Plans center on the North American Company with Robert Bacon in the board, and a first open step cited as the Detroit Electric Light purchase for 4 million dollars. Associates named include George R Sheldon W Wetmore and others as part of the alleged deal. The North American Company already controls several electric light and traction firms nationwide.
A memorial service for All Souls Day will be held at 2 30 p m on November 2 at Calvary Cemetery on Duck Creek Road East Walnut Halls. Prayers for the dead will be offered and English and German sermons will be included in the service.
Trustees of the National McKinley Memorial Association meet in Canton to discuss fundraising targets.
