Firemen buried beneath tons of burning hay
A blaze at the Union Grain and Hay Company's warehouse on Sixth Street and Mill Creek buried five Engine Company 9 members under stacked hay. Fire Marshal Hurley and others rescued them as flames gutted the middle hay section, with about 60 carloads of hay and grain damaged. Loss estimated near $50,000, insured according to Julius Fleischmann. A horse from Engine 26 died responding to the alarm.

Tragedy at Union Station as Chorus Girl Shot by Husband
William H. Short of New York shot his chorus girl wife Evelyn Howard at Washington Union Station after a quarrel over her stage life. He then killed himself, dying an hour later at Casualty hospital. Wind Gauge Broken by Typhoon Sweeps Luzon

DANKER ODAUGHTER VICTIM OF ATTACK
Blanche Wise, 12, daughter of Alanson Wise, cashier of Washington National Bank, was attacked by electrician James Eagle while playing in a grove south of Washington.
