Dispatch from General Sir George Stewart White reports Boer forces in a strong position west of the Ladysmith Dundee road. British troops moved to cover General Yule's column as the enemy, about seven miles from Ladysmith, opened fire before British artillery silenced the gun and forced many to flee.
Cape Town dispatch reports General Yule and Sir George White joining forces north of Ladysmith to face a single Boer army. The move aims to strike at the Free State force that entered Natal via Tintwa Pass, with hard fighting expected soon and Boer troops outnumbering Britons three to one.
London October 24 Parliament heard Field Marshal Wolseley report Yule moves to join White near Dundee while White defeats a Orange Free State force en route Ladysmith Newcastle. Wounded care humane, Boer wounded treated as their own. Walken from Cape Town confirms Kimberley report of October 22 all well.

Burglars attempted to carry off valuables in the village last night. They entered several residences of affluent families and took money jewelry silverware and new clothing and furs before being seen and driven away by frightened residents. Police have a description of the suspects and one man allegedly took goods on approval at a store but did not return or pay.

Loganport Ind Oct 24 Word reached the city of a daring attack on Station Agent W W Watkins of the Vandalia Railroad at Lakeville Ind Sunday night three footpads overpowered him relieved him of 40 dollars and his gold watch and locked him in an empty box car on a rarely used siding He was released after noon yesterday with no clue to the robbers thought to be passing tramps.
Eugene V. Debs may revive the long-dormant American Railway Union as rail way brotherhood leaders meet with him in Terre Haute. They cite lack of harmony among unions and say railroads exploit the discord. Debs promises to decide on returning home to discuss the plan.
Ira Crawford died at his home in Dayton Ohio aged 60 after a brief illness following a fall that fractured his leg He had been appointed Postmaster by President McKinley and earlier served as Dayton mayor from 1836 to 1890 as well as a City Council member He was widowed and leaves one son His management of the Post Office was praised and he was popular among staff
Washington reports Captain Sigsbee will be relieved of command of the Texas around December 1 and reassigned to the Navy Department as Chief of the Bureau of Naval Intelligence. Commander Richard C. Clover will assume command of the Texas, while Clover goes to London as naval attaché to the U.S. Embassy there, relieving Lieutenant Commander J. C. Colwell whose shore duty term has expired.

He was arrested after authorities charged him with bigamy.
Herr Hopffe former Treasurer of the Albert Verein a Saxon charity patronized by the King and Queen was sentenced by the high criminal court in Dresden to four years and nine months in prison for misappropriating 250 000 marks of the society funds. He is described as a millionaire and held a high official position.
In Minnesota on October 24 the Rev Nowell pastor of the M EB Churches at St Lawrence and Miller was arrested after attempting to move the parsonage from St Lawrence to Miller. Miller supporters with the sheriff and workers then seized the parsonage. Miller residents charged three St Lawrence figures Senator King Dr Taylor and Mr Loomis with intimidation as the case unfolds. The pastor remains in custody as the women head toward Miller with the building.
Thos Apple, 60, of Inwood, Indiana, fatally shot his divorced wife today amid a dispute over her moving belongings and then killed himself. The incident occurred in Plymouth with several witnesses unable to intervene in time.
Flag Lieutenant Brumby of Admiral Dewey's Olympia arrived in Atlanta at six tonight to a rousing crowd. Citizens lined routes from the depot to welcome him but no formal program was held as he proceeded to Marietta by special Western & Atlantic train. Atlanta is decorated in his honor. a formal welcome is planned for tomorrow night.
Dan Parker and Thomas Whitamore were ambushed seven miles from Manchester while en route to face Parker’s trial for a Turners killing. Whitamore died. Parker escaped with minor wounds. Judge Eversole fell ill, forcing a special judge, Carlo s Lytle, to preside amid tense factional tensions in London Kentucky.
In Manchester Kentucky on October 24 1900 George Philpot and Deputy Sheriff Dave Chadwell faced off as Bob Philpot drew a Colt revolver. Armed supporters caused a near riot and Judge Lyttle ordered ten men summoned to back the sheriff. Witnesses fear testifying.
Cardinal Ledochowski orders the Belleville bishop to lift excommunication on East St Louis parishioners and to resign Father Cruse. He directs appointing a pastor of the parishioners’ nationality, stating there is no appeal from this ruling and that future US appointments follow nationality lines.
Har Gin Moss, Loveland constable, was shot near Loveland while holding a warrant for a horse thief. The desperado forced Moss to ride in his wagon with Jam er Morgan, sheriff’s son, driving for him. A lengthy afternoon chase ended in the desperado’s capture.

National Convention of the W C T U passes resolutions denouncing the Philippine War and trusts while praising international arbitration. It censures government actions on the anti cantene law and opposes Brigham Roberts seat in Congress. A memorial for Frances E. Willard is held as officers are reelected.
First Lieutenant Franklin Schley of the Twenty third Infantry U S A reports for duty at Columbus Barracks as Adjutant. He is the Rear Admiral's son and has served since 18__. He fought in the Philippine campaign in February and was Captain of the Port on the island of Cuba before contracting tropical fever.
City Councilman J. L. Reilly of Cleveland has fallen heir to $80,000 after four years. While in San Antonio he once stopped a runaway team, likely saving the driver a wealthy Palmer farmer named John Wallace. Wallace died Saturday and left Reilly the legacy.
Key West logged twenty two new cases and two deaths last night while Miami reported eleven new cases for yesterday. Dr Porter aims to move patients northward and has allowed time until Wednesday afternoon to decide on sending a trainload to the North Carolina or Georgia mountains.
