Springfield Ohio October 24 A southbound Big Four train from Detroit to here at 3 50 struck at Bowlesville when the driving rod broke mashing the engineer's cab and instantly killed Fireman D J Palmer of this city. The train reached Springfield with little delay.
The President McKinley name is registered at Precinct C in Canton Ohio by affidavit. He declares he was necessarily absent from the city on all registration days.
George Gilliland, ex-secretary to ex Senator Brice, reports that Cincinnati editor McLean claims enough pledges exist to secure the caucus nomination if Democrats win a majority in the Ohio Legislature. Brice plans a large campaign fund contribution and may visit Ohio this week with possible $50,000 spending to defeat McLean.
Grace M. Elliott, adopted daughter of William H. Elliott, may inherit a $25,000,000 estate of Imblay Clarke, mine owner dead in Australia. Local lawyers say her papers are faultless. Hobart and Griggs may pursue claims for Nan Clarke Squire and Grace Clarke of New Jersey connections. Elliott has appeared as an elocutionist for charity in San Francisco and Chicago.
In Indianapolis on October 24 William Tuttle aged 45 and his nephews Joseph Tuttle and Washington Kirby, both 25, were struck by a Big Four freight train while on a log wagon crossing the railroad fourteen miles north of the city. All three died instantly. They lived at Mohawk Hanover County.
