Major McKinley greeted a large Republican crowd in Canton Kansas delegates, including Emporia railway men, arrived after long journeys. He urged tariff support for industrial growth and rail employment, voting on November 3 for prosperity and public policy favoring the United States.
A McKinley rally in Armstrong County Pa features D B Heiner as spokesman with thousands in attendance. McKinley argues tariff policy protected workers and prosperity, cites 4th year of strong national production and calls for a vote in favor of his policy. Delegations from Van Wert Ohio and Pennsylvania celebrate republican majorities and honor local glassworks gifts.
A Pennsylvanian group representing the Directors of the Poor and Charities Association closed its Pittsburg session and met Major McKinley this afternoon. In Norwalk Ohio, women plan to travel to Canton next Tuesday on a special train to honor McKinley and his wife, led by Mrs Geo A Titus and Mrs Laylin, with Titus wearing a McKinley pin.
George Cook and George Lamb, suspects in a buggy theft, were discharged by Acting Judge Smith in Chicago. As officers planned re arrest and grand jury steps, the pair fled the courtroom. They jumped into a horse and buggy from Cass avenue dry goods man 8. P. Werner and sped off as three policemen gave chase. Police hunt them.
In Muncie Indiana Ralph George a cashier for Lake Erie and Western Railway collected Bryan itinerary donations from cities including Akron Lima Dayton Hamilton Lancaster Sandusky Sidney Piqua Circleville and others totaling 2225 with expenses 1240. The Muncie Popocrats were ordered to raise 500 and only partly succeeded in gathering funds from silverites and Republicans.

Senator Foraker plans a return campaign drive this state beginning Saturday. A Sound Money parade in St Louis on October 31 expects about 75 000 participants, with the daylight parade billed as the greatest spectacle seen in the Queen City. A Glendale Republican mass meeting last night drew one of the campaign’s largest crowds in the Millcreek Valley.
In Canton, Canton, Pennsylvania, the frame Morse house burned and Mrs. Leroy, ninety, was found chained to the wall. Neighbors freed her as the roof collapsed, then moved to safety. Peter Laws, horse trainer, was arrested and jailed, with crowds at the jail. He claimed innocence as the rapid pursuit spread through Williamsport.
Delaware County in Indiana claims William Scott aged 97 is the oldest Republican voter. He first voted for John Quincy Adams and has supported every Republican candidate. He has 24 descendants who will vote for sound money. In Norwalk Ohio editor Frederick Wickham aged 84 boasts his family of twenty will vote for McKinley and Hobart on November 3.
A Brownstown prisoner was escorted to the county jail where crowds gathered in the streets. Rumors of lynching circulated as the marshal moved the prisoner. After officers left with the prisoner, over 200 men pressed the jail area hoping to view the interior, but the prisoner's location was confirmed elsewhere and the mob dispersed.
Crowds at Evansville Indiana packed Evans Hall for Bourke Cochran with clashes over counterfeit railroad tickets. Police needed twenty four officers to keep order as hundreds outside jeered and threats of violence and rotten eggs arose. Cochran left safely after a nearly two hour speech amid chants and hostile reception linked to Populist and McKinley era politics.
Memphis Tenn Oct 23 The Populist electoral ticket of Georgia will be withdrawn following a conference between Tom Watson and Populist committeemen Washburn on Reed in Nashville.
Secretary of the Interior David R. Francis announced support for Palmer and Buckner and the gold standard Democratic candidate for Missouri Governor, Trimble. The letter, dated October, was sent to Hon. F. R. Walker, Attorney.
Artsmouth Ohio story describes groceryman Thomas Stentzel finding beans shaped like McKinley faces. He opens a barrel and discovers several beans with an almost perfect likeness of the president. He notes many beans resemble McKinley and claims they symbolize eight years of his presidency.
New Orleans dispatch reports David Johnson confessed to aiding Jacob Brittin in killing John R Prather the hermit who lived on a Mississippi Island. Prather saved Brittin from drowning after an earlier quarrel then was struck and his body shoved into the river. Brittin and Johnson are on trial for murder. Johnson’s confession weakens Brittin’s defense.
New York October 23 Arthur W Lockhart mate on a schooner off Be thune street North River faced Jefferson Market Police Court charged with taking a crape from the door of 126 Bank street where a dead man lies He had drunkenly seized the crape ran up Greenwich avenue shouting cries He was sober at arraignment and expressed remorse for the act.
Charles F. Crisp former Speaker of the House died in Atlanta at Holmes Sanitarium after weeks with malaria fever. He suffered heart attack at about 2 PM, watched by his wife and nurse Miss Sharp. His daughters Mrs. Fred Davenport and Miss were at his bedside.
