The attending physician testified arsenic was found in the woman’s stomach and she died from it. A prisoner’s stepson said she bought poison labeled rough on rats and detectives suspect a few rats in the house.
In Waverly Ohio on October 22 a large Republican rally drew about 6000 people. Governor Gear condemned Democratic rule since 1837 and warned that worse than trusts are a Democratic administration. Senator Hanna received an ovation and urged support for McKinley era policies and future McKinley successors.
crowds of about 3000 at Lancaster station cheered Senator Hanna and party as they arrived by the C M V from Circleville. Emmett Tompkins and Senator Hanna spoke at the Auditorium, praising Republican policies and urging unity against anarchy and Democratic issues.
Governor Nash and Governor Shaw addressed 800 attendees in Clyde urging continued McKinley and Roosevelt policies. Nash stressed Foraker’s election to sustain Republican control and tariff protection. Also report of Foraker speech at Kenton praising Eastern commerce and Philippines role.
President Roosevelt’s Farmington visit draws hundreds from Hartford and nearby towns. He rides through town in an open carriage touching hands, attends a McKinley oak ceremony, and hosts a reception at Mrs. Cowles’ home with senators Hawley Pratt and Governor McLean. He departs for New Haven at 8:10 a.m. tomorrow.
Private telegrams from Palestine Texas report Judge John H Reagan chairman of the Texas State Railway Commission and the lone surviving member of Jefferson Davis's Confederate cabinet is seriously ill at his home in Palestine. Reagan is 85 years old and in fragile health.
Secretary Root arrived in Washington and was driven to his residence. He will resume duties at the War Department tomorrow.
The American Missionary Association publicly supports President Roosevelts entertaining Booker T. Washington at the White House. The association opened its fifty fifth annual meeting today at the First Congregational Church in Oak Park Illinois.
Sir Thomas Lipton departed New York aboard the steamship Celtic for home today. His steam yacht Erin is scheduled to sail at noon tomorrow.

A fire scare at the Temple Theater in Kentucky on October 22 caused a massive rush for the exits as a small flame near the polyscope machine sparked panic. Dozens were injured, including three seriously, with one feared dead, while ushers and police managed the crowd and the show resumed after a temporary hospital setup. No fire damage occurred beyond a blown fuse.
London October 22 Sir Redvers Buller is relieved of command of the First Army Corps after a October 10 luncheon speech about the Ladysmith dispatch. He is placed on half pay and General French succeeds him. General Hilyard commands at Aldershot pending French’s return.
Maria Josephine Eastwick, a young Philadelphia socialite, pleaded guilty in London after being committed for trial at the Old Bailey on a charge of forging a railroad certificate worth £100,000. Sentence postponed pending further examination to determine details of the case.
A courier reports a gold rush at Beulah Colorado with five hundred claims located in the last day. A free milling gold ledge yields nearly $2000 per ton, drawing Pueblo residents to the site.
Mrs Bilsie Vankirk wife of Mineral City merchant eloped with Dr John Parker and was arrested in Columbus Ohio. She returned to her home with ex Mayor James A Rice of Canton to seek reconciliation with her husband. Parker agreed not to return to Mineral City. Vankirk daughter of Silas A Rice Magnolias.
Dr. Brieden testified at the Witwer hearing that illness appeared caused by poisoning before the post mortem. He suggested possible arsenical or mercurial poisons or another irritant, but gastritis could not be ruled out until after examination.
