Antonio Maura yields to persistent opposition pressures as critics intensify attacks on his government. The political climate grows tense with calls for policy shifts and accountability.
Premier Maura resigns after Moret y Prendergast attacks. Moret forms a new ministry and takes premier and interior posts, with Perez Caballero foreign affairs and other senior appointments sworn in amid rowdy parliamentary reactions.
The Vatican did not anticipate Premier Maura's fall, citing his energy in restoring order at Barcelona and other affected areas. It remains reserved on changes in the Spanish government, stating cabinet shifts in Spain are none of its affair.

Twenty five people were drowned when a dam burst at Lake Derkos thirty miles northwest of Constantinople. The lake provides water for the capital and the disaster occurred today.

The Princeton University board of trustees accepted William C. Procter of Cincinnati's offer of 500000 to be used for graduate college projects as he designates. The gift, given last spring, requires matching gifts or pledges by May 1, 1910.
Wilkes Barre Pa October 21 District Attorney Halsburg issued warrants for the arrest of County Commissioners Smith McAvoy and Jones County Controller Norris contractor Frank Carlucci architects Frederick McCormick and Henry French contractor Orestes Formilgili inspectors Michael Lynch and Charles Norris on charges of fraud connected with the construction of the new two million dollar courthouse.
In Chicago on October 21 Judge Honore indefinitely postponed the annulment hearing of Grace B Guggenheim and William Guggenheim divorce. The case arose from claims of fraud and disputed Illinois residency, with high profile New York and Chicago lawyers and no precedent found. The judge suggested Mrs Guggenheim may file a fraud bill but Illinois law limits such actions to five years.
President Taft tours Taft Texas visiting the schoolhouse and cotton gin, sees a steam plow and ice cream at a creamery, and plays 18 holes of golf with Robert Connerly. He praises local farmers, notes regional development, and invites the Texan champion to a rematch as he heads toward Corpus Christi and Houston.
John Schrenkler of 1632 John Street rushed into thick smoke on the third floor to rescue his wife three children and four relatives amid a tenement fire shortly after 5 pm. He led them to safety from the hallway before Fire Company No 13 arrived, suffering burns on hands face and head. The blaze caused about 300 in damages.
In Washington on October 21 the supreme council of Scottish Rite Masons for the Southern jurisdiction held an executive session to nominate knights commander of the court of honor. About 300 Masons progressed to this 32nd degree, a step toward the 33rd degree. Elected from Kentucky and West Virginia were leaders in Louisville and Wheeling. A memorial service plan marks Albert Pike's 100th birthday on December 29.
A pile of rags and paper placed by a supposed incendiary burned out without igniting the apartment of Mrs Anna Henderson at 1251 Baker alley. Patrolman Turnipseed found a broken trunk lock and a heap of rags and papers and the motive remains undetermined. A young man who had been rooming at the house is suspected.

The General Education Board announced a conditional appropriation of 125000 to Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware Ohio. It was the sole college aided as the fund for collegiate education was exhausted. The exact condition attached to the grant was not disclosed.
Mrs Maude Ridley a widow is held on attempted murder charges after Mrs Nanette Lillard accuses her of giving poisoned candy. A city chemist found strychnine in each piece. Lillard says Ridley offered the candy after a dispute over her husband. Both parties threaten prosecution.
Relatives of Midshipman Earl Dunlap Wilson at Annapolis report no definite condition updates. Wilson, 21, earned multiple medals at Annapolis, held three N stars, played football and baseball, and was tied to Covington via Maurice L. Galvin. Wes Wilson, former Kenton county clerk, is at his bedside.
Flames gutted the western annex of Union Station laterals above the B and O train dispatch office. Firemen battled the blaze for two hours with water flooding the station as telegraph operators stayed at their posts until wires shorted. Estimated damage not exceeding 50 000 dollars, with priceless documents lost. Dozens of spectators watched from miles away as the fire spread to the east wing and the roof. W J Kennedy, a brick mason rebuilding the Des Moines Coliseum, fell and landed on John Holmquist a tailor passing below. Holmquist died within minutes from a broken neck while Kennedy suffered serious injuries in the incident.
Theodore Rizzo was found guilty of murder in the first degree for the Sept. 12 killings of Theresa Procopio and Freddy Infusino. Judge Rogers scheduled the Nov. 21 execution date, with Rizzo awaiting sentence at Auburn prison after a confession to his attorney and a claim of drunkenness as the motive.
