The twentieth century Limited on the Big Four Railroad derailed after an open switch at Flint ten miles north of Columbus. Engineer Ritter and six passengers were injured with one likely fatally hurt, as the engine somersaulted off the track and the cars crushed and wedged end to end.

A pistol duel at Paint Lick Kentucky left Dr Ed Poyntz dying and John C Siler seriously wounded.
