Ohio Supreme Court voids J C Morris appointment to the state railroad commission as ineffective. Sullivan keeps the post and about $3,000 back salary due from the auditor while Harmon’s successor assumes the six year term. The six year term pays $5,000 annually with staggered appointments.
A long fight over the railway commissioner vacancy ended with the Ohio Supreme Court ruling for John C. Sullivan of Hamilton, appointed by Governor Harmon, against J. C. Morris named by Governor Harris after the Eaton term ended.

They accuse polling officers of misleading women by denying books and saying odd wards could not vote. Dr Sarah Sievers says registration fraud occurred and expects the city board of elections to provide a fair opportunity.
A street affray at Fourth Street and Central Avenue left Joseph Quinn 45 dead from a lumbar bullet wound after a confrontation with Albert Bott 28 and Peter Kourlas 52. Police say Kourlas drew a heavy pistol after taunts and a scuffle near a Grand Hotel fruit stand. Quinn died en route to city hospital. Bott and Kourlas were arrested. A white man about 50 was found in the hall of 8 Garfield Place last evening with a cerebral hemorrhage. He rented a room that morning but gave no name and no identifying possessions were found. He was taken to City Hospital in critical condition.
Town Treasurer John B. Lombard pleaded not guilty to forging two town notes totaling 50 000 and was held on 20 000 bond in his Framington bed chamber. Boston brokers Charles S Cummings and Edward A Mead were bound over to the Suffolk county grand jury on larceny charges. Total outstanding for these cases reaches 125 000.

Chicago Oct 1 The head of the American Newspaper Publishers Association Herman Ridder charges President Taft was misled during the tariff conference and reversed his stance on print paper. He claims the Mann committee's findings supported a $2 per ton rate to protect U.S. mills, while the proposed $3.75 rate harmed Canadian pulp exports.
