A city Democratic gathering featured heated exchange on petitions for the City party ticket. Mayor Dempsey and allies rallied behind the mayor while opponents urged restraint and criticized prior resolutions on ward candidates signatures.
William Halvershorn a Valvoline Oil Company bookkeeper was arrested on a $6,000 embezzlement charge after a company East Coast official came to Cincinnati. Bond set at $10,000 posted by his wife and others. The arrest followed an affidavit and a magistrate’s warrant amid high tension in local circles.
The Right Rev. Dr. A F Winnington Ingram preached to more than 5 000 financiers in New York directing them to spread the gospel in offices and the Stock Exchange. He urged work and faith and argued God’s existence with a kite story from London fogs and appeals to conscience.
A wrecking car driven by Motorman Charles McCoy of 1112 West Highth street jumped the Wilder avenue track near Glenway, injuring him seriously. The car toppled down the embankment while another car avoided McCoy, who was hurled 15 feet and taken to the hospital in serious condition. A laborer acting as conductor was uninjured.
In Columbus Grove Ohio on October 15 Jacob Hall a 75 year old farmer went blind while driving from his country home to town. He lost the use of his limbs and his power of speech and died later.
In Richmond Virginia the General Episcopal convention’s House of Deputies after three sessions on October 15 recommends to the House of Bishops adoption of the suffragan Bishop resolution addressing the negro question.
H M Tilford of Standard Oil testified in a federal suit to dissolve Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. John G Milburn said William G Rockefeller was unavailable as he was not in the city. Tilford revealed continued close monitoring of competitors by the Standard.
John P. Wright of Preble County was awarded 2500 dollars in a suit for alienation of his wife’s affections against Clement L. Wikle of Eaton. Wright had shot Wikle about a year ago and was recently released from prison after serving for the shooting.

Chicago date line reports Judge Ball modifies an injunction on 286 731 shares held by Union Pacific Railroad Company Railroad Securities Company of New Jersey and Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York in the Illinois Central annual meeting. The ruling lets the shares be voted but voids any vote that would be decisive, creating a handicap for Fish and a strategic pressure for Harriman allies to exceed by 286 732 votes. Total outstanding Illinois Central shares are 950 000 with 663 669 effective votes after removal of affected shares.
