Official dispatch from Cape Town reports Captain Nesbitt slightly wounded after the armored train dash into a culvert near Kraaipan. Boers fired as the train wrecked. police patrol found no signs of life. two miles of rails torn up. crew and six Marig residents aboard.

Special Dispatch reports in Saybrook Ohio on October 14 a large wild eagle attacked Mrs. Arthur Stewart as she found a chicken the eagle tried to steal. Harbor Beach Michigan October 14 The steamer W P Ketcham struck the schooner Typho in Lake Huron causing instant sinking and the loss of four crew members Henry Ledford mate Dan Carr Joh Campbell and Mrs Adams the cook. The Typho’s captain and two sailors escaped and were rescued by the Ketcham.
Governor Bushnell contributed 100 dollars as Cleveland citizens raise 1200 dollars to help about 150 Ohio soldiers in San Francisco return home. The Red Cross said state funds were unavailable and Cleveland men had spent their travel pay while awaiting transport.
Ohioans respond to aid for Cleveland soldiers stranded in San Francisco on their return from the Philippines. Senator Hanna and Governor Bushnell each give $100, with John R. McLean contributing the same and about $700 raised by others. Colonel J. O. Winship says $1,200 is needed to cover expenses and letters San Francisco to bring the 155 men home, with arrival expected next Wednesday or Thursday.

Hawesville Kentucky October 14 Sheriff Lyons and a posse of fifteen armed men pursue Ed Spencer for the murder of his sweart in Troy Indiana earlier today. As of 11 pm no word from Troy on capture and if caught within twenty four hours a mob is feared to string him up.
A semi official report states that a coadjutor will be appointed for Bishop Rademacher of the Ft Wayne Catholic Diocese. The bishop has recently been in a private sanitarium and likely cannot resume duties. The Cincinnati province bishops must decide, with Bishop Watterson of Columbus to receive a fee, making a probable selection.

Julian rented the gun from a hardware store then returned to fire at Holehan and Barney Gray, wounding the latter in a partition. Julian, drunk and arrested, faced jail. Holehan 26 and recently discharged from the army. witnesses called the act unprovoked.
Philadelphia October 14 United States Senator Boies Penrose chaired the second day of the International Commercial Congress assuring McKinley would visit before closing. The morning featured Barbara Atkinson of Roseton on The Interdependence of Nations. Delegates later toured the Delaware Riverfront Camp's shipyard and other sights.
Ex Senator Bronston charged J C S Blackburn era election law with cold blooded ambition and destruction of local self government. He attacked Goebel’s rail and school bills, prison and poolroom laws, and alleged political manipulation at the Louisville convention.
