Graf Zeppelin Opens First Commercial Atlantic Flight
The Graf Zeppelin began its first commercial trans Atlantic voyage from Friedrichshafen toward the United States. Forty six hours into the flight the dirigible passed over Barcelona and Tarragona while weather remained favorable at sea. At the Protestant Episcopal general convention in Washington the drive to fund mission work surpassed one million dollars. The event saw the House of Bishops and Deputies form and begin revising the Book of Common Prayer. A record crowd attended the National Cathedral service, with overflow across chapels and an outdoor observance. The Deputies approved litany changes adding safety prayers against earthquakes fires and floods and expanding travel prayers to include air travel.

Smith Campaign Train Invades Virginia and North Carolina

New Registration Records Set in Cincinnati Voter Drive
Voters registered for the first two days of the 1928 listing reached 132 191 in Cincinnati, a rise of 38 739 from 1924. Women accounted for about three quarters of the gain with 52 740 registered, an increase of 28 016. Officials forecast a landmark election turnout with up to 225 000 registered in the city and near 190 000 voting in Hamilton County. The Second Ward, led by Frank Lewis, added about 4 300 in total, including 2 600 women, amid widespread gains citywide.

Train Strikes Auto at Norwood Crossing Injures Woman and Girl
An auto driven by Walter F. Bettner of Monroe Avenue Norwood was struck by a C L N train on the Madison Avenue crossing. Bettner escaped injury while his wife Catherine and thirteen year old daughter Ruth suffered severe head cuts. Engineer John Breen of Columbus was aboard the train.

Levine's Plane Wrecked After Takeoff for Rome
