Great preparations are under way in Southampton for the departure on Saturday of General Sir Redvers Buller. The Duke of Connaught the Duke of York Lord Lansdowne General Lord Wolseley and General Sir Evelyn Wood are expected to accompany him from London. The fleet bringing Buller's army corps will be escorted by warships.

The Ohio Presbyterian Synod met in Springfield and largely reviewed Wooster University governance. The committee report says the Board of Trustees legally controls the university, though lingering disputes may be settled in the next session.
The Central Passenger Association decided to set bicycle transport charges at half the regular excess baggage rate within its territory. It also established a Thanksgiving Day rate of one and a third fare for travel between points up to 150 miles apart.
Fireman Er nest Hill of the north bound K M freight train fell from the tender near Gallipolas this morning and was instantly killed as several cars passed over him. Remains were taken to Pt Pleasant for burial preparations and shipment.
Mt Sterling Kentucky reports a surprise wedding as J B Tipton and Kate Henry widow of Captain T J Henry formerly clerk of the Court of Appeals for eight years married May 29 in Lebanon Ohio. The couple kept the details private and left for Indiana after a Cincinnati visit. Tipton formerly ran a drug business in Mt Sterling.
The North German Gazette reports Prince Von Hohenlohe will host a dinner in Berlin on Friday honoring American General Benjamin Harrison. Attending guests include U.S. Ambassador Andrew D. White British Ambassador Sir Frank Lascelles Foreign Minister Count Von Buelow and Interior Secretary Count Posadowsky-Wehner.

Judge Basil LaPlace state senator and brother of Tia Place of Philadelphia was shot on his St. Charles Parish plantation. A mob of about 25 men gathered at his house after dusk and fired on him after binding an employee who witnessed the scene. The killer was said to be a male relative of a girl LaPlace had wronged. LaPlace was 34, married with children.
