In Stamboul Louisiana Oct 9 reports say the Roosevelt hunting party prepared for a busy day. Rain softened ground helping dogs while officials note activity and favorable temperatures. Secretary Latta closed the temporary White House to join a pecan search nearby.
In Stamboul Louisiana on October 9 the President and his hunting party set out early in ideal conditions. Guides report good prospect for game and the President is in excellent health and eager for the sport.
In Louisville on October 9 a sorrel mare balked at Fourth Avenue and Green Street delaying traffic for an hour at the busiest corner. The carriage carried Mrs. Owen Tyler of Cincinnati and guests including Mrs. Samuel R. Thomas and Mrs. Wortham Otter while workers laid underground wires. The coachman’s whip failed to move the horse as crowds gathered. the mare was finally unhitched and led away.
Springfield Ohio Oct 9 One of the most unusual cases in local courts featured the sentencing of George F Nuiffer a former member of the Board of Public Service who resigned after payroll irregularities were found He pleaded guilty and with state support the court imposed a year in prison Judge Kunkle ordered the sentence despite Nuiffer having repaid shortages.
The Episcopal Convention in Richmond reports $775000 raised at a men’s offering with J Pierpont Morgan and G C Thomas each giving $100000. The House of Bishops rejects a divorce remarriage ban, debates preamble wording, and postpones final action until Friday amid a Negro question pamphlet controversy. An accident disrupts Deputies briefly as Dr L M Backford is injured.
In Sandy Hook Kentucky on October 9 the Commonwealth's motion to dismiss indictments against John Abner Elbert Hargis and Bill Britton for the five year old murder of Dr B D Cox was granted with key witness failure. Other Lexington indictments tied to the Cockrell assassination likely will not go to trial as most principals and witnesses have left town.
Chicago dispatch reports Mrs. Chas J Romandka of Milwaukee wife of a millionaire manufacturer confessed to a spree of burglaries and petty thefts. She implicated Albert Jones who is under arrest and a man named Ralph Smith sought by police after a $1000 jewelry theft at C E Beck’s home.
Callie Morlock, 14, of Tiffin, died when crude oil used to start a fire exploded in Wapak, while visiting her brother Charles Morlock who was seriously burned.
In New York Oct, Wesley Tilford testified in the federal suit on Standard Oil and its liquidation. Kellogg presented that trustees liquidated only enough stock to gain a majority and voted as individuals, maintaining control. Tilford testified the New York Company still owned the Central Park cross town pipeline and that over 32 million was loaned last year to interests other than Standard Oil.
On October 9 the Lusitania reported 617 nautical miles covered since noon yesterday, averaging 24.76 knots. Despite six hours of fog, she beat her previous 608-mile record and, if maintaining 25 knots, would reach the lightship around 1:30 a.m. Friday for an overall voyage average near 24 knots.
The body of a young man with a head wound was found along Cleveland's lake front. Identification was removed from his clothing and his pockets were empty. Police suspect murder tied to a possible hold up.

R N Ford was found guilty on the fourth count of an indictment charging secret embezzlement in connection with wrecking the Burton bank. This marks his third trial after an earlier conviction and release. The Burton bank failed four years ago for 1 250 000 dollars.
Mrs Cassie Chadwick serving ten year term for wrecking the First National Bank in Oberlin Ohio is in a hospital ward in Columbus she is unable to retain nourishment and her condition is described as very serious.
