WICHITA Oct. 9 A Kansas trip by Senator Foraker draws large crowds and boosts Republican hopes. Officials see Morrill’s reelection and a state ticket edge while presidential odds favor McKinley, hindered by Leedy weakness. The tour covers Topeka readings, Manhattan talks, and Wichita rallies with Ohio veterans and supporters mobilizing in a mass arrival.
Ohio miners end third day without agreement with operators. They back 61 cent rate, while operators push 45 cents from Oct 1. A statewide popular vote among 30,000 miners will determine a possible strike. ballots due by Oct 17.

The instrument, sacred to locals and kept under seal, was shown annually. Miss Orlepp is the first woman to play it. Leandro Campanari, former Cincinnati College of Music, secured custodianship after Severi's death.
A bank robbery in Sherburne Minnesota ends with a bandit killed by his own gunfire after a pursuit, a deputy marshal wounded, and the bandit found with stolen bills. The attacker fled by bicycle before tire failure and a final self inflicted shot.

Samuel Kauffmann a 30 year old Dayton, Ohio railroad worker, shot himself at 17 Second Avenue in Pittsburg. He left two sealed letters naming family members and a woman Lucy Thompson as the cause. He told occupants of his intent and died from a chest wound after being taken to hospital.
In CAFRO W Va David Hilkey an elderly farmer killed his wife by crushing her head with a slop jar in their Rutherford county home. He walked to Harrisville and told Sheriff Jones of the crime asking to be locked up. He offered no motive and is described as mentally unbalanced. He has no history of domestic trouble. He was placed in custody as sheriff investigates.
In Indianapolis, A. A. Gaynor, manager of the American Tailor’s, appeared amid reports of a Hunti patent abate and his roles as treasurer of the Improved Order of Red Men and K of P lodge. He is said to be short about 400 dollars in each of the orders.
Canton Ohio reports Major McKinley listened at breakfast as Chicago business leaders demonstrated via a long distance line. A central union telephone manager ran ear jumpers from two rooms to Se where receivers picked up band music and crowd cheers 400 miles away. The 1st Tennessee delegation joined the noise from their own household.
In New York Hobart, running mate for the Republicans, placed an ear to a giant radio receiver at headquarters and heard the Chicago parade cheers echoed to Canton and here. He praised the distant roar as he sat with Major Kinley’s home at Canton, delighted to hear his name cheered across the miles.
Mayor Caldwell spoke with Chicago Mayor Swift by telephone to hear the McKinley Day demonstration in progress in Chicago. A female operator on the line described loud crowds, shouting for a speech and cries of Hurrah for McKinley as brass bands played nearby.
At the State Convention of the Women's Christian Temperance Union in Youngstown Mrs F M Leiter urged responsible action by druggists and doctors even if saloons vanished. Delegates were elected to the regional convention and a resolution banning ornaments secured by torture passed after Mrs Mary W Castle tore an ostrich feather from her hat saying she would wear them no more. The convention adjourned at six with next meeting set by trustees.
Dr. Theodore Barth of Die Nation, Berlin, says German workers favor sound money and oppose bimetallism. He notes Socialist Democrats also stand against it and explains Bismarck did not back currency reform, despite some leanings toward bimetallism when in power.
The President and Private Secretary Thurber arrived in Washington from New York at 7:40 this morning and were driven to the White House.
Muncie Indiana October 9 The Ball Brothers company announced the big plant will resume Monday morning producing fruit jars and will employ about 1 500 workers.
The Volkszeitung reports Prince Bismarck is suffering from neuralgia and ingomata, noted from Berlin on October 9. The brief dispatch cites the illness affecting the prince's health and routine.

John Shinn, son of Mr and Mrs George Shinn of Muncie Indiana, learned that real estate agent William H Kirby of Memphis Tennessee is his father after overhearing a discussion. Kirby says a relative in Cincinnati has left a fortune of forty thousand dollars awaiting John. John has a sister in Cincinnati and a Covington Kentucky brother in business. The Shinn family had come from Pittsburg two years ago.
In Boston on October 9, George W. Richards and George S. James, Brown University students, were fined five dollars plus costs for stealing door plates. The pair took three plates as trophies during a lark, then tried to prank detectives by reporting a room entry. Detective Nickerson identified the owners, leading to their arrest.
