Aguinaldo urges recognition of Filipino independence and calls the world to witness that the alliance with the United States remains intact. He praises Americans fighting imperialism and appeals for support from the Democratic party to oppose imperial aims.
Manila October 8 reports the advance from Imus and Bacoor toward Malabon and Old Cavite began at 10 a.m. General Lawton assumed command of the troops.
General Otis informed the War Department that the transport Puebla sailed from Manila with 105 sick and 100 discharged men. The Garonne sails today and the Indiana will depart tomorrow with Tennessee troops. The Tennessees had joined at Iloilo and Cebu to aid in driving insurgents from nearby mountains, with their role described as decisive in the engagement.
At the Indiana State convention of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union 236 unions were added in the past year. North Manchester leads with a 100 member banner union. Mrs. Ward of Peru won a vote of honor for organizing 52 new members. The state has 68 organized counties and 24 unorganized. National President Mrs. Stevens to speak tomorrow afternoon.
Richard J. Fanning of Columbus has been appointed a captain in the Forty first Infantry for the Philippine service. The War Department telegram from the Adjutant General in Washington confirms the promotion for the Civil War and Spanish War veteran.
In Columbus on October 7 Catherine Naddy, three, daughter of railroad conductor John F. Naddy, was accidentally struck by a bullet that glanced off pavement from a revolver fired by 13 year old Clark Noble. The girl is expected to recover.
A dynamite cartridge intended for stump blowing was stolen by five boys aged 7 to 10. They ignited the fuse to test proximity with a match, causing an explosion that injured Howard Farley, Edward Davis, Clarence Webster, Fred Farley, and Howard Lynch. Farley suffered a severed arm injury and facial burns, Davis fractured leg, Webster facial burns, others minor injuries.
Winchester Democrats held a primary to nominate city council candidates L B Lancaster Walter Calmes T K Moore J A McCourt A R Martin and L E Oden The issue of saloon licensing dominated the vote and was seen as a win for license advocates under local option laws in Winchester Kentucky.
Jerome Uhl the famed portrait painter who lives in Washington has disappeared from Springfield after yesterday noon. He was last seen sketching at Wittenberg College and had been staying in the city recently.

Oliver Gorall will travel to Baltimore with the kinship affidavits and attorneys are engaged to pursue the claim.
Ambassador White plans a week of honor for General Benjamin Harrison in Berlin. The visit includes meetings with Emperor William and Queen Wilhelmina’s gala, plus a sequence of receptions and dinners with the American colony and the diplomatic corps before Harrison's departure to Brussels The Hague and London for return to the United States aboard the St Paul.
