Washington reports a rise in Japanese and other Asiatic immigration into the United States. An explosion at Standard Steel Company in Butler Pennsylvania destroyed the No. 1 Cupola, killing four men and fatally injuring twenty while ten others are seriously hurt. Most victims were foreigners. The incident caused about $100000 in losses and widespread panic as crowds flooded the scene.
The release of Sir Harry MacLean, long held by bandit Raisuli, may be near after Britain accepts Raisuli's reduced terms. The deal includes a $150,000 ransom and British protection for Raisuli and family, guaranteed by Sultan Abdel Aziz. MacLean's brother is at Rabat as negotiations proceed.
The northbound Florida and West Indian limited on the Atlantic Coast Line collided with an engine after an open switch at South Relay Mountain at 3 am. Engineer W. Boney was killed, Postal Clerk T. T. Hill injured, and several cars and engines were demolished. delay disrupted service for six hours.
