In Millersburg Ohio on October 3 funeral services were held for Fred Penhorwood who was murdered Thursday evening in Killbuck. Two thousand people attended as all suspects so far arrested were released and the search continues.
Frank Steinach rushed to summon a physician to the Divis home near Shell Creek Precinct nine miles northwest of Schuyler. In the forenoon the mother Mrs Davis allegedly added strychnine to coffee at breakfast. Four of seven children, the mother, and a sixth person were affected with one child dying and another in a dying condition while others recovered.
Henry Savage Landor premier traveler and writer and grandson of Walter Savage Landor faced death in Thibet. Abandoned by his party he was treacherously seized by Thibetans and sentenced to death. The Grand Llama commuted the punishment to a stretching rack after hot iron torture. He endured eight days chained with twenty two wounds.

The St Peter, from Bear River to Buenos Ayres with lumber, was moored near Windsor Nova Scotia.
Special Dispatch from Springfield reports a sequence linking the fatal number thirteen to ex Chief John McKenna’s death and Patrolman Collis’s illness. McKenna died September 13. thirteen Dayton officers attended his funeral and thirteen local patrolmen served as guard. Collis fell ill thirteen days after the squad march.

Two young men with revolvers halted a cable train one mile south of Kansas City on the Summit Street line during last night's run. They grabbed the conductor's loose change, fired at gripman N J Israel who did not stop instantly, but caused no injuries. No passengers were aboard. The robbers escaped.

Denver & Rio Grande train No. 4 derailed west of Cotopaxi Colorado after a journal broke. Two passengers died on the train and many were injured including Mrs Robinson Mrs Johnson Ada Compton and Miss Laura Gates. Fred Seyler 22 of Cincinnati died en route to Salida. The train carried baggage car three tourist cars one coach three sleepers and a pay car.
A drought threatens the Southwest as Missouri and Kansas face a water famine. Kansas City reports dry streams and ponds after seventeen years with artesian wells delivering some relief. Farmers haul water for miles as stock and vegetation suffer, with drought risks if rain does not come soon.
Mrs John Gilmer Speed, 38, formerly Miss Mary Poindexter of Kentucky, died at her summer home in Mendham New Jersey after several weeks illness. She was well known in New York social circles and in Kentucky. Her husband is John Gilmer Speed editor of Leslie's Weekly. The death shocks many friends.

Mrs. Mary Francis of Zionsville carried an 8 month old infant from the Park Theater in Indianapolis. After the play she found the child dead on a street corner where they waited for a car. The baby had been ill for some time.
Word arrives that ex Mayor Fred Cope was drowned while fording the Skagua trail creek. He slipped and vanished, washed away instantly in the current.
Residents from Muncie flocked to the Broiles oil well near Gaston eight miles away where a large crowd toured the site. The well is yielding immediate storage needs with tanks rising and derricks and leases growing across the township.
In Holgate Ohio four miles south of town Rev. Fish conducted a baptism for Bertha Wright seventeen. As immersion began she sank under water and was rescued by deacons. She is recovering from the shock.

In Rock Hill South Carolina a 15 year old boy killed J J Ray in Wilkesboro North Carolina in March 1873. The son of the murdered man hired a detective who traced Aaron Miller. Miller was arrested on a Ray sworn warrant and will be tried in North Carolina.
Three people die after a house fire in East Longmeadow Massachusetts. George Brownlee wife Mrs Brownlee and two sons Thomas and James escaped in night robes then perished inside. James survived initially but died later the same day. Brownlee sustained severe burns to head neck and feet as the building burned.
In Elwood Indiana on October 3 the Fourth District Convention of Knights of St. John met with special trains from Indianapolis Anderson and Union City bringing many attendees. A monster parade was staged at 1 pm with numerous officers and Knights in line led by Colonel J F Hickey of Ohio who addressed the gathering.
New Orleans reports 27 cases and two deaths by 8 p.m. as districts like St Claude and Hospital Street show progress toward containment. Ocean Springs records no fever cases under treatment while quarantine and shipboard arrivals shape local health measures.
The Norwegian fruit steamer John Wilson reached Delaware Breakwater under quarantine after the death of Chief Engineer Charles Peterson of Bergen from yellow fever. The vessel left Mobile September 12 with bananas, landed sick crew at Bocas del Toro, and will be fumigated at Reedy Island before further isolation.
