A lone gunman robbed passengers in an Omaha Union Pacific train’s Observation car, then was shot in the head and leg by a special agent as the train neared the city. A porter was forced to aid the robber, who moved through two Pullmans robbing others. Police had been alerted.
In Cleveland on Oct 1 Lowell Allen seated in a rocking chair hid behind the counter threw a pop bottle at a gunman who tried to rob Mrs. Allen. The intruder pressed a revolver to her. Allen knocked it away and urged help as he released the bottle. Police booked Joseph Kolda 30, for assault to rob.
Mrs Cora Wilson Stewart of Owan County Kentucky receives the 5000 Pictorial Review annual achievement award for 1924 for founding the moonlight schools in the Kentucky mountains and efforts aiding the illiterate. The award was decided by a board led by William Allen White.
