Reports from Manila depict a day of movement as the Filipino Peace Commission appears and American prisoners are moved. General Otis and officers tour, while insurgents greet the exchange. Prisoners praise their treatment and indicate fatigue with the conflict.
In Mayfield Kentucky on September 30 anti saloon forces won by 32 votes. Women and girls in church wraps organized the effort with preachers and local church leaders supporting the push. Celebrations followed with fire engines, bells, and a rally at the Opera House featuring twenty speakers.
Quincy Illinois gears up for a McKinley visit on October with extensive preparations. The city has planned a banquet and a roving cup presentation to honor Lieutenant Harry Caldwell, private secretary of Admiral Dewey and fleet secretary, who makes Quincy his home.
Prison guard Pat McInerney faced arraignment in Covington Police Court for shooting ex Detective Charles Noonan. The case was continued to October 9 with a $500 bond. Noonan later declined to prosecute, saying he did not desire to press charges. The former detective expected release in a few days. In Muncie a 15 month old babe choked to death on chicken while being fed to relieve discomfort.
Sheriff Jor dan of Holmes County arrested B. Wilmars alias Harry Gray in Norwalk after he was linked to the Holmes County safe loot last November amounting to 170 dollars. The suspect, previously jailed for assaulting a woman and attempting to pick her pocket in Canton, was identified by recovered pennies from the crime.
Constantinople Sept 30. Customs officials refused to pass 20 000 sacks of American flour arriving from the United States on the ground that it was unwholesome. U S Minister Oscar S Strauss protested and obtained an irade ordering admission of the flour.
Milwaukee on September 30 reports Henry Miller a tanner killed Patrolman John Kassow at Miller home corner of Twentieth Avenue and Orchard Street. Miller struck Kassow with a baton as the officer entered to quell a quarrel between Miller and his wife. The killer fled on a bicycle.
In Manchester Kentucky on Sept 30 the Griffin and Philpot factions faced trial with 18 Commonwealth witnesses. Judge Wright denied acquittal for four Griffins and Chadwells while others were discharged. Four Griffins and Chadwells await Circuit Court trial next week as Philpots flee town. The hearing closed amid tense exchanges and a shouted challenge to release the prisoners.
London reports indicate rising fear of a British invasion of the Transvaal as telegraph cuts and troop movements spur expectations of hostilities. Trade interests fear devastation and heavy losses while the peace camp warns of bloodshed and cost. Also notes Mrs Langtry plans a forthcoming memoir.

Akron plans a ten minute stop for President McKinley and his Cabinet with a decorated depot area and a short speech. The party travels by train from Canton to Akron on the Cleveland Terminal & Valley Railway, arriving about 12:30 noon on Thursday.

Writ of error granted to the U S Supreme Court in Stephen Baldwin vs Fred A Baker. The Michigan Supreme Court upheld the Bland Allison act recently. Baker, former Democratic State Chairman, refused 600 silver dollars as mortgage payment claiming silver not legal tender. Local and state courts ruled against that view.
Crowds cheered Sir Thomas Lipton as he rode in a carriage on Fifty second street, then roared at the Admiral leading the parade past Forty second street. General Miles and Rear Admirals Sampson and Schley drew applause, while a youth reached to greet Rear Admiral Ley. Police formations under Chief Devery reviewed the procession at 145 p.m.
