William Goepper a Belt Line streetcar conductor shot his wife as she slept then killed himself during a struggle over a dumb bell and a revolver. The wife 23 escaped with non life threatening head wounds while Goepper 37 died soon after at the hospital. Coroner to hold an inquest.
Special Despatch to Commercial Tribune reports renewed efforts in Congress to pass a bill incorporating the National Association of Manufacturers. Colonel E P Wilson outlines six reasons including national representation, educational aims, non profit motives, and Governmental recognition to elevate American industry overseas.
A drunk saloon porter wandered into a Kokomo Presbyterian revival led by Evangelist Merton Smith of Chicago. He denounced the preacher, causing women to faint. Smith kept him in the pulpit, saying the liquor in him spoke, not the man, and continued his discourse.
La Porte Indiana November 25 The Woman's Christian Temperance Union plans a memorial for the National convention in Washington to urge a new department to enforce liquor purity and a law requiring only pure whisky sell at saloons The group claims pure whisky costs 100 while adulterated fetches 1000 and that such a law would cut profits and force saloons to close.
A stranger named Smith was found dead in the Pagosa Springs hot spring. The body appeared “cooked” by water over 160 degrees, and investigators found no other clues beyond the deceased being a visitor at the springs.
Police traced a thief from the Gauer saloon at 530 Walnut Street after a blood trail and scattered pennies led from the scene to a Lodging House. Ka Dreis, 28, was found weak and wounded in a room on the fifth floor of the St James Hotel, later jailed at Hammond Street Station.
Leonard Day society man of Minneapolis is killed in the West Hotel billiard room during a quarrel over a woman. Frank H. Hamilton, a sporting reporter with wealthy New York connections, is held on murder charges after the coroner’s jury blames him for Day’s death. Several bystanders aided but could not prevent the fatal wound to Day.
St Petersburg reports from three ministries say Emperor Nicholas faces a serious illness despite Livadia bulletins claiming improvement. Officials fear brain fever and potential brain complications after a blow in Japan, with the government briefly paralyzed by the Czar’s illness. The Livadia bulletin notes a quiet day with fever spikes and later stabilizing temperature and pulse.
Reports from Senator Davis in St Paul say he had a fairly comfortable day with his foot wound dressed and he slept some. Delirium eased slightly and later he became restless again requiring Dr Stone's visit. Kidney trouble persists despite treatment.
Samuel Saltzgaber of Van Wert aged 101 walked to the polls to vote in the election and received a personal congratulatory letter from President McKinley. The executive mansion note praises his faith in the Republican principles and wishes him health and happiness.
In Chicago a 30 foot ledge scene saw Miss Jennie Youngleeve ring the alarm after a burglar entered her home. Police responded but the intruder escaped, frightening her mother into hysterics during the break in at dawn.
A burglar entered Jacob Goldman’s Woodland Avenue home early today. Goldman's son grappled with the thief and was shot in the jaw, while Mrs Goldman was wounded in the breast. The burglar fled. the son’s condition is serious.
The faculty of the Northern Indiana Normal School in LaPorte has issued an edict banning football, enrolling about 3 000 students, with enforcement to follow. It marks the first large Western college to openly oppose the sport.
Washington report says William Jennings Bryan plans a law partnership with Minnesota’s Charles A Towne and a Bryan and Towne firm will soon open in Chicago after a Chicago conference. Several lucrative editorial offers post defeat have been declined as he moves toward partnership.
London reports the czars condition shows less favorable signs though no alarm is confirmed. Queen Victoria receives daily telegrams from the Czarina and the absence of exceptional anxiety is noted. A Moscow correspondent cites a Livadia water test indicating typhoid germs, with censorship limiting news. Accouchement planned at Livadia, and removal before February seems unlikely.

Clad in mismatched attire and silk pajamas, he spoke of pugilism and politics, claiming to train to meet boxing legends while his friend Wiechering telegraphed his father and described their Hot Springs receipt.
Joseph F Kushman arrived two weeks ago with an attendant and friend from Cincinnati. He was in a poor mental state and did not improve. He became nervous at 2 a m and moved to another house after claiming noise prevented sleep. He departed Hot Springs for Cincinnati with no real incident at the Arlington.
