Ervin Elkins was killed and his brother Jon wounded when three men opened fire on a Norfolk & Western train between Chattaroy and Nolan in Mingo County. The incident occurred amid a miners strike that has gripped the area since July. three suspects were arrested after the clash near a Nolan tent colony.
In Mingo County West Virginia a group of about 100 unidentified men attacked Burning Creek Coal miners at Kermit after their shift. Earlier a Norfolk and Western train near Chattaroy saw Jervin Elkins killed and Joe Elkins wounded as lawmen pursued suspects.
W. W. Nichols a 19 year old freshman at the University of Cincinnati posted a personal ad on a McMicken Hall bulletin board. He asked for a freshman girl for a class reception and dance, listing requirements such as demure attractive dear young sweet innocent untamed and a willingness to ignore conventions. He provided Avon OSS as a contact after 6 pm and Thursday afternoons. The notice was removed within minutes.
Two girls of a gypsy camp near Mariette Wisconsin attempted to rob the Farmers' Savings and Trust Bank. One distracted the cashier by telling his fortune while the other grabbed over $500 and fled. Assistant Cashier Leslie Eggleston stopped the fleeing robber.
Miriam Walter aged 14 was rescued by an unknown commuter during an earlier attempt at boarding a moving train at North Hackensack Station. She died on a second attempt when crushed between car trucks and a concrete curb, witnessed by her father Rev A J Walter.

Mrs. Julia Drewery 35 was shot and killed in her Carlisle residence. Cumberland County District Attorney holds two soldiers from the field service school Floyd A. Waller and Jacob Pack as investigation proceeds. Witness Belva Drewery contradicts soldiers account of the incident.
Philadelphia police expect within 24 hours the arrest of a man and a comely blonde woman linked to the killing of Henry T. Peirce, a manufacturer's agent found dead behind his office. Jewelry missing, pockets turned inside out, and jealousy cited as motive. Peirce's car traced beyond state lines as investigators pursue the suspects.
Surveys dating 1729 to 1762 pertain to property transfers between Caroline County Virginia and Campbell County Kentucky. Found in Alexandria by William Milius and deputies after Governor Davis asked for their send to Virginia. County Judge A M Caldwell opposes removal as records may be needed locally in the future.

At Tylertown Mississippi Harry Jacobs a Black man on trial for assaulting a white woman was seized by a mob breaking two doors into the courtroom. He was dragged by rope to a bridge tied to an automobile and swung from a tree where he was riddled with bullets. One man was accidentally shot and in critical condition. A special term of court had been convened and efforts to proceed were rebuffed.

New York, Nov. 23. Representatives of over 1,200 retailers formed a council of national retail associations to combat a price decline hurting clothing dry goods shoes and millinery. Salmon P. Halle was named permanent chairman with ten delegates from each group. The council will press for tax revision and policies to aid retailing.
