Despondent over ill health Lizzie Campbell of Wellsville died by suicide by drowning in the Ohio River near East Liverpool on Friday before noon. Her body, fully dressed with hat and rubber overshoes, was found by attorney George Ingram. no violence observed.

Richard Cole a 20 year old colored porter was arrested and jailed awaiting grand jury action on charges of assaulting Ada Dennis a dressmaker in her Washington home over ten months ago Dennis died from injuries about two weeks ago. Julius Van Brakle testified Cole hinted he would be happy if Dennis were dead and noted a worried look. Detective Hartigan said Cole was the only witness wavering in his statements.
New York witnesses described Katherine Tingley known as the Purple Mother as a leading figure in the Theosophical movement. Edward Parker testified he joined the cult and learned of alleged exploits dating to 1896 including a steamer farewell kiss and gossip about her early life.
The Lost Run Mine near New Straitsville, Ohio, is permanently lost to Buckeye Coal and Railway Company after multiple explosions. Flames shoot fifty feet, machinery and fifty cars burned, leaving 250 workers without hope of saving the coal seam. State Mine Inspector Elmer G. Biddison survived a near fatal gas exposure while trying to reach survivors.

Five masked men blew open the Cloverland Indiana Post Office safe last night and stole several hundred dollars in stamps and cash. Robert Gabbert, passing the store housing the post office, was captured and tied to a chair before the robbers fled with their loot. In Culver, Indiana burglars also blew the Post Office safe early today, taking about $1,000 in stamps after three dynamite blasts.
Residents of Hancock and Houghton were alarmed by a terrific shock shaking houses and rattling windows. The cause could not be determined. This marks a second such disturbance in three months.

The Rev James Hillis said to be the oldest member of the Indiana Methodist Conference is dying in Chicago at his daughter's home of paralysis. He is 87 years old and spent the first twenty years of his ministry in Ohio before moving to Indiana where he served thirty three years with the Methodist Church.

Bragg a 61 year old great grandson of Zachary Taylor died in Norfolk County Jail Portsmouth Virginia He told the jailer he was linked to Confederate General Braxton Bragg and to the Taylor family His body to be held in Portsmouth pending word from Jefferson County West Virginia He had just been jailed for drunkenness and died of alcoholism and dropsy
