Berlin reports that former Chancellor Von Rath accuses Britain of plotting against Germany by stationing warships off Vigo and six submarines near Heligoland to sink German ships if World War I risks arose. He claims British captains had orders to watch and torpedo German vessels. Other papers react with disbelief or agreement.
Edward J. Perry, once mayor of Greensburg, Pa., attacked his three children with a gun in his bedroom. He fatally wounded 15 month old infant sister nearby but the baby was unharmed. Perry then killed himself with a shot to the heart as Elizabeth, four, died later at the hospital.
Senator Cummins spoke at a Marquette club luncheon in Chicago, praising Iowa Republicans and opposing tariff critics led by Cannon. He denounced Bryan as false, warned insurgents could fracture the party, and urged unity against tariff revision with a call to accept the fight.
The honorable commissioners of the mikado of Japan touring the United States visited Pittsburgh industries before moving to Cincinnati. Baron Eiichi Saibusawa leads the party and baron Kanda, a noted educator, travels with them. Wives join some tours, and the group shows keen interest in machinery while cameras are restricted at the Homestead steel works.
In Winchester Kentucky on November 6, a new suit seeks an accounting of 1906 and 1907 crop pools from the Burley Tobacco Society. Clark county growers J. Ed Gaitskill B. P. Dooley L. B. Cockrell and J. L. Brown accuse misused funds 1.5 million dollars in alleged 1909 expenses and demand a receiver and full books plus distribution of 345000 from an outage fee to members. Also reports Taft visits Augusta Columbia and Charleston as his trip continues with remarks on farming and national unity.
C L Warriner, charged with defalcation of tens of thousands from the Big Four railroad, seeks a full investigation as rapid developments unfold. He was arrested on a $20,000 bond after authorities moved on warrants in Muller's court, with the case hinting at higher figures and possible complicity beyond him.
Governor of the Panama canal zone Joseph C. S. Blackburn sailed to Washington for a conference with President Taft. He refused to confirm or deny published stories that he does not desire to return to Panama.
Robert Gunther aged 39, of Cincinnati, employed at Herring-Hall-Marvin safe works, died at Mercy hospital in Hamilton, Ohio, after a self inflicted throat wound severing his wind-pipe. He had previously lived at 2187 Keck Street with brother George Gunther.
Mrs Alfred Lockwood testified at a Sutton preliminary hearing that Arthur Johnson a Black man is one attacker in the Gassaway home invasion. She also said she is reasonably certain Hank Johnson alias Scott Lewis aided the crime. Both suspects are held for the grand jury as militia stay ordered by Governor Glasscock.
In Wabash Indiana Albert Modricker died after pushing his brother Carl off the tracks as a freight train approached. Albert was killed instantly while saving his brother who survived. Both men worked as telegraph operators in Wabash.
Philadelphia selected as the venue for Phi Delta Pi medical fraternity’s next annual convention with dates to be set later by the executive committee. Officers named include Supreme Archon Dr George O Pray and peers from Michigan Minnesota Illinois Missouri and Virginia among others.
The reception committee and Cincinnati businessmen prepare to greet Japanese commissioners and trade experts arriving by special train at 8 a.m. They will be escorted to the Linton hotel by mounted police and cars, with a noon program to start and a full day of activities planned until their departure tomorrow midnight. Fountain Square illumination is scheduled and stores along Fountain and Government squares are asked to light from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Baron Gakuya Uchida was formally appointed by the Japanese emperor as Ambassador to the United States, succeeding Baron Kogoro Takahira who is on leave in Tokyo. The State Department received the cablegram via Ambassador O'Brien in Tokyo.
Sixteen thousand Spanish troops, with heavy reserves, began advancing from Melilla into the Beni-Starter territory at 7 am. The advance guard was led by Infanta Carlos of Bourbon.
Reports from Honduras say President Davila plans to conflict with Britain over British subjects on Blutan Bonacco and Utal. Small coastal vessels must post bonds to operate, halting cocoanut exports and raising prices while many ships wait idle. The Bonacco governor was arrested and guarded to Truxilla on charges of mistreating soldiers.
Orville Wright returns from abroad and heads to Dayton to begin serious work at the Wright brothers factory. He plans to start Monday, resuming production and testing at the Dayton site with the firm’s expected return to full operation.
