Republicans hold full control in Congress and push tariff reform as a likely outcome. If needed a special session may be held after a short one. Only two key Senate committees would see material changes, with little overall effect expected.
Washington Nov 5 The latest returns show Republicans including Fusionists from Pennsylvania districts will control the next House with 204 Republicans and 179 Democrats. Three districts remain doubtful the Eighth Tennessee and the First and Second California. Official results will update as more returns arrive.
Washington smiles over election results while uncertainties linger about tariff legislation and the House Organization. The retirement of Speaker Henderson and the fate of Mercer’s Public Buy Committee loom large as Cannon is expected to succeed Henderson.
Senator Mark Hanna refused to comment on Mayor Johnson after Ohio and national election results. Johnson said Republicans will fund next spring’s campaign to defeat him, claiming voters support officials over measures and noting gains for Democrats in Cuyahoga County.
The Ohio delegation to Congress remains seventeen Republicans and four Democrats after partisan gains in the Twelfth and Thirteenth districts. Complete district returns are pending, with estimated majorities listed for districts from the First to the Twentieth, including notable results for Jackson, Cassingham, and Kennedy among others.
NSFIELD O Nov 5 Several special ballots on bonding propositions delayed results in the county and city with precincts reporting late. Democrats lost ground as the county plurality fell from 1901 to about 600. Republican Skiles wins the congressional district by at least 2000. Judge Silas M Douglass gains big Republican support ensuring election in the Fifth Circuit. Republicans break even on county officials though only one commissioner remains Republican.
Celina Ohio November 5 Mercer County prota count reports Laylin with 1 546 votes while Bigelow trails in local returns.
Franklin County reports Laylin the Republican won by 1 983 votes over Bigelow, a gain of 4 % over last year when Kilbourne carried the county. Bruck carried Philip H Bruck his home county by 868. Other county results include Probate Judge decisions and a congressional race. Local court scene describes Mayor Loftin pleading guilty after a traffic incident, with Judge Ward fining $5 and 1015 costs for the offense added on the spot.
Ohio Republicans gain in major cities with estimated total vote around 800000. The tally places Lewis C Laylin ahead of Herbert Bigelow while Nash's statewide support recedes. County results vary with Cincinnati Columbus Toledo driving gains and Cuyahoga County showing idiosyncratic patterns amid party splits.
