Salt Lake City Nov 4 The polls closed late at 8 pm and returns will be late. In three scattered precincts outside Salt Lake McCarty the Republican leads Young the Democrat 129 to 112 for Associate Justice with a large amount of scratching noted.
In Maryland an election for six Congressmen resulted in four Republicans and two Democrats. In the Third District Wachter led by about 100 votes amid one precinct ballot-marking dispute requiring sealing of the ballot box. No broader disturbances occurred.
Indianapolis reports the Republican State Committee estimates the total state vote at 566,500. The figure reflects early returns and party projections for statewide election turnout.
Huling contends Buckeye Republicans may carry seventeen or eighteen congressional districts while facing potential losses. The report notes strong GOP efforts across Ohio with emphasis on district battles and party strategy.
