Attorney sets forth allegations that Crotellane beat the wife as part of marital disputes. Complaint references married life and ongoing legal action.
Paris court hears Castellane divorce case with Maire Cruppi representing the Countess. The Countess seeks divorce citing extreme extravagance and repeated abuse over money matters. Evidence includes love letters and infidelity allegations with multiple named mistresses. the trial adjourns with expectations of a decree without further testimony.
Reuben Dessauer reported to Covington police that he deposited 108 dollars with a local trust firm seeking a 3000 dollar mortgage on his property. The firm reportedly claimed state affiliation with a Birmingham trust company. Police say inquiries have come from about thirty people. detectives cannot locate any firm members. One manager said the party had left for Louisville for three weeks. Dessauer learned a stenographer hinted the Covington office would close and move to Birmingham or Cincinnati.
In Lexington 600 Kentucky State College students clashed with police during Halloween pranks. Four patrolmen were struck on the head with rocks and seriously injured, including Captain J C Ford. Five students were arrested as reserves later chased rioters. additional police patrols were feared as night fell.
Three bodies lie in the morgue and two others wounded after a murder this afternoon in El Paso. Manuel Rodriguez killed his wife and a woman named Chana Ramira then both were killed in a gun battle with police. City Detective George Harold and Jack Glover were wounded as officers exchanged shots with the killer. The fire department doused the crowd with a water hose to quell the scene.
A Halloween night fire swept the Leipsic block housing Isaac Levi son clothing store Minor Compton bowling alleys John Hyde law office W P Miller insurance Knights of Pythias Hall Townsend Opera House and Bazaar department store. Fire started around 6 30 pm in Castle Hall during a Rathbone Sisters social and quickly consumed the block with losses near 100000 while insured largely. Ottawa Fire Department aided as the town lost its venue for public gatherings and entertainment.
News received today that a French camel patrol of one officer and sixty men was surprised and slaughtered by a Senoussi force at the end of August, twenty miles northeast of Lake Chad.
Chicago Police Inspector Patrick J. Lavin was found not guilty of conspiring in a burglary and arresting suspects to enhance his promotion prospects. The case, pursued by Chief of Police Collins, spanned two weeks and stirred police ranks. A convicted burglar testified he shared proceeds with Lavin, whom Lavin denied all charges.
Washington October 31 secretary Bonaparte issues a general order to stimulate rifle practice among marines. Experts will receive 3 dollars per month extra pay sharpshooters 2 dollars and marksmen 1 dollar per month based on qualification levels.
Dr Julian R Thomas of New York ascended Nirvana to about 5000 feet near Augusta Georgia. A damaged valve caused a rapid descent and he cut away weight by shedding shoes coat and pockets. He landed in a cotton field, was dragged by the balloon, and suffered scratches but no serious injuries.

Jule Keen, longtime treasurer of the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show for 25 years, died at the Ashland House after his wife fell ill and his health declined. Born in New York City in 1846, Keen rose to fame as a negro minstrel and later as a German dialect comedian, notable in vaudeville and the stage, especially in Chris and Lena.
Harry Beebe of South Millville New Jersey collapsed from heart failure. Drs Wade Miller and Jones revived him with hypodermic medication and artificial respiration. He regained consciousness and reports the sensation of near death while doctors call the result miraculous and hopeful.
Emma Goldman and ten others including five women and five men were arraigned after arrest for alleged unlawful assembly to overthrow the government. Each was held on $1,000 bail for further examination in the Police Court.
A Cincinnati dispatch reports General Manager W A Garrett of the Queen & Crescent Route has accepted the position of First Vice President in charge of operation for the Seaboard Air Line. The change takes effect in about three weeks and may relocate his headquarters to Richmond Virginia.
The Rev. George Clarke Cox of Calvary Church Clifton formally offered resignation to the vestry at a Monday night meeting. Trustees present except one, decided to refuse the resignation and invite him to stay. A C Neave presided. Cox declined to discuss the matter on Wednesday.
In Lodi Ohio 100 farmers with teams pulled three engines and several cars off the Baltimore and Ohio line and sank them in a ditch to block a new cut off crossing. A wrecking crew and officials were en route from Akron to assess the scene as farmers vow to resist reopening traffic at the grade level.
New York October 31 Patrick McCarren Democratic leader in Brooklyn opposing Hearst released a cablegram from Dumdrum Ireland congratulating McCarren on his manly stand. Richard Croker signs the message McCarren expects Croker to return soon after the election and would not confirm if he will take an active part in politics.
Illness of Attorney Wilfred Jones, counsel for Lord Frederick Barrington, convicted of murder and under death sentence, earns a further stay as sixty days are allowed to transmit the transcript to the United States Supreme Court. Barrington has been confined in Clayton Jail for about three years.
Burglars broke into the Auditor's office vault in Wapakoneta Ohio last night and stole several hundred dollars in cash. The safety deposit boxes were opened but the vault door remained locked. County Auditor Meyer was away from the city and no culprits are identified.
Mayking Kentucky October thirty first. Joe Davidson the alleged murderer is found in a Cumberland Mountains cave on Live Fork Creek head. Officers posse heads to cave to arrest him amid risk of bloodshed. Davidson linked to long feud fame and faces a three hundred dollar reward.
New York Oct 31 Columbia University contemplates abolishing the cane spree tradition after faculty oppose intercollegiate competition this year. The annual clash between sophomores and freshmen centers a mat and a four foot cane with loud cheers. If the freshmen prevail they gain pipe smoking, high hats and canes, risking the end of a long-standing ritual.
Three hundred Lawrence University freshmen and sophomores in Appleton Wisconsin ended a strike by paying 27 to cover damages from recent class clashes. Peace envoys conveyed payment to President Plantz and the students were reinstated.
Sheridan Wyoming October 31 A skirmish near Bitter Creek pitted renegade Ute Indians against Tenth Cavalry. Troops recaptured fifty ponies, but were overwhelmed as about 100 Utes fired revolvers and stampeded the herd. Troops did not fire in return, numbers favoring the Utes.
