French Driver Sets 500 Mile Track Record in Indianapolis Race

At the Indianapolis oval the 500 mile race saw four French cars win first to fourth place. Rene Thomas won $25,000 in Delage setting a 6 08:45 time and 92.81 mph. Duray placed second in a Peugeot with 6 10:26. Guyot third in a Delage and Goux fourth in a Peugeot. The crowd neared 100000 as Joe Dawson lay critically injured and others were hurt.

Strike Call Signed To Halt Coal Miners In Kanawha District

About 12,000 miners along the Kanawha River Paint Creek and Coal River were ordered to strike starting Monday. The call was signed by Thomas Hagerty of the United Mineworkers and Thomas Cairns of District 17, with operators and miners to withhold dues via checkoffs. An accord with Paint Creek operators retained the 1913 contract including checkoffs, while two items were submitted to arbitration for a quick decision.
