Detroit detectives pursue a mystery linking a sailor’s death on a vessel to a gunshot wound at the back of the head. Theories abound about a bullet hole and powder burns as investigators examine the scene.
The body of John Keller of Cincinnati is identified in Newport Michigan with police suspecting murder and robbery. Dr. Collins notes a non drowning air in the lungs and a back neck bullet wound, while the crushed left face suggests foul play. The coroner’s post mortem is urged to determine death cause and weapon details.

Bridgeport Ohio May 30 Dr B Loyd Duncan of Fairmont West Virginia visiting his father James Duncan city Superintendent of Public Schools shipped a remarkable specimen to the Smithsonian Institute. Duncan dug angle worms while preparing for fishing in Wheeling Creek and found one thirteen inches long and about a half inch thick that could stretch to over thirty five inches.
Prince Luigi Amedeo of Savoy Duke of Abby 271 nephew to the King of Italy travels to America for Mount St Elias ascent. He departs on a Pennsylvania Railroad special train to Chicago accompanied by aide de camp Chevalier Umberto Cagni and guides Vittorio Sella Francisco Ganella and Dr Filippi with five Alpine experts joining the party.
In Sutton West Virginia on May 30 two circus trick horses clashed in the ring causing a panic. Miss Minnie Allman and Miss Helen Berry were severely injured as crowds fled through holes torn in the tent sides.
Columbus reports Miss Mary De Long daughter of a Methodist minister committed suicide by taking a large dose of laudanum after a spree. Her mother and stepfather Fred Moore formerly lived in Zanesville. The death occurred tonight in Columbus.
Springfield Ohio May 30 Governor Bushnell says no off years for Republicans in Ohio and predicts the party will continue its success. He says Democrats will base the fall fight on free silver and the Chicago platform with Arlen Thurman as a vigorous free silver advocate. He notes gold Democrats will again oppose silver inflation. He is in Springfield to give a memorial address at Ferncliff Cemetery this afternoon.
Johnstown Pa mourns on May 30 marking the eighth anniversary of the flood which killed about 3000. Local G A R posts plan Memorial Day rites as flowers are laid on soldiers and flood victims graves. Bicyclists and others gather roses in the mountains for tomorrow's tribute.
Four children die and two more are mortally injured when a spring wagon carrying eight youngsters is struck by a Denver & Rio Grande train. Canal Dover Ohio May 30 The annual saengerfest underway at Zoar seven miles away draws delegations by special train from Ohio and Pennsylvania. Officials estimate at least two thousand vereins members with visitors from nearby counties bringing total crowd to about four thousand.
Theodore Durrant will be hanged on June 11 in Sacramento California one week from next Friday according to official word. The date sets the execution after months of trial and legal proceedings drawing attention to the case in local and state circles.
In Harrison County near Bridgeport, three armed men entered Henry Forsythe's home shortly after midnight. They robbed him of 23 dollars and demanded 600 more, bound him, and drenched his hands and feet with coal oil before setting him on fire. On Decoration Day in Sweet Home Texas two rival youths Will Lewis and Wil Bosworth fought a pistol duel near Salem Church. Both men were killed after exchanging shots until their revolvers were empty. Lewis suffered three body hits and one arm wound while Bosworth took head, body, and leg hits.
John J. Dolly of Denver South Carolina possesses the first solid shot fired by the Sumter garrison on April 12 1861 in response to Beauregard's attack. The thirty two pounder is donated to the Confederate dead monument being erected by the Garnard Comorian Association of Anderson for the memorial.
The Yerkes Observatory at Williams Bay Wisconsin will close for the summer after the movable floor of the dome, seventy five feet across, fell forty five feet. The fall occurred when one of the supporting cables tore from its weight, unbalancing the floor and bringing down the winding stairway of the telescope support.
Special Dispatch reports Spencer has learned Porter Hill a 14 year old resident at River Corners died by hanging himself in a henhouse. Authorities say the motive cited is a melancholy disposition. He lived with an uncle and aunt.
Parts of a man’s body were found this morning about ten miles west of Findlay on the Lake Erie & Western Railroad. The head identified as Nicholas Myers of Marion. He leaves a wife and three destitute children.

Portsmouth town police were asked to locate Marie Bowman, star actress and wife of William Bowman, after she reportedly eloped with actor John McKee from a floating theater anchored above the city. Mrs Bowman is said to have crawled from the boat, meeting McKee in a waiting skiff.
In Warren Ohio on May 9 three masked men murdered Isaac K Hill a bachelor farmer of Farmington after a hand to hand fight in a second story. They bound his 77 year old deaf mother who slept below. Hill was shot through the heart and his skull crushed. The killers escaped with no valuables and no clue to their identity.
Fred Weber alias Meyers a painter in Dayton was jailed on a charge of impersonating an officer. He claimed to be a detective from an Indianapolis agency and extorted about $20 from saloon keeper John Gilmeier at Washington and Perry streets by selling liquor from unfairly labeled bottles.
Police raided a Glenwood grove as an anarchist picnic celebrated the release of Henry Bauer and Carl Nold. Forty seven men were taken into custody on disorderly conduct and beer sale violations. rifles and a large cache of bullets were seized amid claims of a shooting gallery setup. Bauer and Nold denounced the raid as an outrage.

A preacher's wife and two daughters were thrown from a carriage when Axiom Elliott's runaway team overturned the vehicle in Dublin. Washington May 30 The Western Union prepares for telegraph transmission between the House of Representatives and the British House of Commons as they prepare to begin the international chess match tomorrow at 2 PM Washington time. The setup uses Heart's Content Nova Scotia as the American terminus with five boards designated by numbers and moves announced by ordinal adjectives. Members from both sides observe the preparations and test openings.

A folding bed at the Union House in Montpelier collapsed automatically last night with Henry Kendall, 63, asleep inside. He was dead on removal, cause uncertain, either smothering or heart failure induced by fright.
Mrs Nannie L Barr a four year old child and her sister Miss Mattie L Alexander aged 14 were drowned in a tank near the house in Abbott Texas today The child fell into a deep hole in the center of the tank and the women died while attempting to rescue him
PADUCAH Ky May 30 There was a wholesale jail delivery at Mayfield last night. The prisoners tunneled out. Among those to escape were John Jackson John Capsule and Tom 7inkard horse thieves.
Miss Jay Dangerfield, daughter of Major Foxhall Dangerfield, and her sisters Misses Julia and Bessie, were returning from the city when ponies ran away. Miss Jay fell under the horse and was kicked. Miss Julia grabbed a hind leg and held it, freeing Jay.
