Boston Chicago and St Louis officials visit Cincinnati for a four club event. A river steamer ride luncheon trolley excursion and a Kirchheim lawn fete highlight a day of receptions and floriferous decor. Notables include Lucien Wulsin and M E Ingalls with club presidents and city officials.
The Cincinnati Club arranged a visiting-club trip aboard the Island Queen. Colonel Lee H. Brooks greeted guests as the decorated steamer carried them past Eden Park and the Coney Island area. A large floral display, gifts from Rockwood pottery, and a banquet luncheon preceded a formal toast by President Wulsin welcoming the Boston Chicago and St. Louis clubs with commemorative loving cups.

Lima Ohio May 27 a 14 year old boy named James Welsh helping at Hummel and Sells circus was horned by an elk and cannot recover. The incident occurred during unloading and, despite efforts, his condition worsened.
Reports from Bellaire and eastern Ohio state a killing frost early today across the region. Young tomato and potato plants suffered heavy damage, with high ground bearing the worst losses while valley gardens escaped lighter effects. Replanting will be necessary for many gardens.
Loganport Ind May 27 William Six arrested by Springfield Ill Sheriff on bigamy charges for being husband in name to six women. He escaped custody and was recaptured before being taken back to Springfield last night.
Rev. James Hoskins of the free thinker faith was tried in Atlanta Police Court and fined after street sermons he denounced Christ as a hypocrite liar and pretender. Indignation and complaints followed. Hoskins agreed to stop preaching to avoid further action.
All journeymen bakers in Wayne Indiana walk out with Trades Council backing. They form three gangs and work eight hours daily. Ovens are leased and bread is sold in baskets and via three leased wagons. Demand includes higher wages and the use of, the label.
Indianapolis dispatch notes John F. Johnson of Logansport could receive up to ninety years if nine counts are sentenced cumulatively. Judge Baker indicated he may impose consecutive terms in a cumulative sentence, citing precedent where multiple charges extend the total beyond a single ten-year cap.
In Bloomsburg Pa May 27 the third day of L S Wintersteen’s trial featured Clifton Knorr on the stand recounting Wintersteen’s promises to protect him after the dynamite plot against Levi E Waller. Knorr described stealing germs and attempts to poison Mrs Knorr with diphtheria germs and a plan to disfigure Waller with vitriol.
President McKinley weighs elevating the Spain post from legation to embassy with Cuba concerns in mind. Names mentioned include John Kasson and Whitelaw Reid, with Edmunds and Calhoun noted as controversial. Reid could face Senate opposition. In Anderson Indiana yesterday Standard Oil discharged two hundred quarts of nitroglycerin in a well at the Bowers farm near Alexandria. Drilled 134 feet into trenton rock without oil until early this morning when the well began spraying oil and now flows ten barrels an hour. Oil stock rises as operators cheer.
In Boston on May 27 Julia Ward Howe celebrated her seventy eighth birthday at home on Beacon Street with congratulations and flowers. She is three days younger than Queen Victoria and attended a Unitarian festival at Music Hall before joining the Women’s Suffrage Association banquet at the Vendome where she spoke.
In Washington on May 27, an attempt to raise Cuban belligerency in the House failed as Reed ruled the matter not privileged. Congressman Lewis urged taking up a Senate-recognized Cuba policy, citing foreign relations as a high-priority privilege and referencing historical precedents.

Elwood Indiana May 27. Jack Bly was hypnotized and buried four feet deep yesterday by Aja Jobac the Hindoo hypnotist. At 3 pm today Bly began yelling for help as air inside the shaft grew thin. Rescuers quickly dug him out and revived him with speed and fan aid.
Joseph Payette and Egbert Zimmerman two nonunion molders brought to Portsmouth by the Ohio Stove Company were assaulted today with clubs by two strangers and a revolver used in the attack.
