Special Dispatch reports Republican leaders optimistic about a party comeback in 1914 and 1916. They unite progressives and regulars in opposing the Wilson Underwood tariff, hoping a quick national convention and tariff reform will revive business and curb Democratic influence, especially in the South.
Florida Republicans back a plan to cut national convention representation. Florida’s Henry 8. Chubb supports four delegates at large plus one for every 10 000 party votes, arguing the North and West call for reduction. Other leaders urge a single delegate per state or similar restraint.
Republicans in New Orleans favor the Republican National Committee plan to reduce Southern representation in national conventions. Special dispatch reports Mrs Edward Beal McLean mother of the $100000000 baby arrived in Baltimore with her husband to consult Drs Llewellyn Barker and J M T Finney at Johns Hopkins Hospital about an appendicitis likely requiring surgery.
A box left inside the Babies' Hospital on Lexington Avenue and Fifty-eighth Street triggered police alarm. Detective Hausler arrived to inspect the package, but a faint baby wail emerged from within the blanket cocoon, revealing a few hours old infant alive and healthy.

James R Garfield and Peter Roosevelt join the party with more witnesses expected.
At Northwestern Station in Chicago on a May day Colonel Roosevelt refused to discuss the Republican party plan proposed by Senators Sherman and Cummins. When asked about the libel suit he replied he would show them when he gets there and refused to comment on current affairs.
