The Prince of Wied and his wife fled Albania by Italian warship Misurata as revolt spreads. Tirana fell to Mohammedan rebels. attacks on Durazzo threaten Christians and a guerrilla campaign looms with Austrian and Italian troops sent to restore order.
Special Dispatch to Commercial Tribune reports increased gravity in the Dominican revolution. From Puerto Plata President Bordas blockade. artillery fire on rebels near Puerto Plata and in the southeast outskirts. No foreign injuries. Rebel forces march toward the capital Castine and Governor of Samana Province's 106 troops. Desultory firing with no casualties. Railroad open for thirty miles. telegraphic communication disrupted.
Special Dispatch: in Pittsburg on May 23 Judge Orr issued warrants for Samuel M. Wetmore former superintendent of the Carbon Steel Co and five employees or ex employees including David J Simpson Dennis K Buljens Henry Saitz and James E Lacey. They are charged with devising and conspiring to defraud the government by supplying steel plates and draw pins far below contract grade for the Isthmian Commission and Panama Canal locks. Warrants will be served by U S Marshal Joseph Howley.
Cleveland riders may lose free transfers as the Taylor grant requires fare changes when the interest fund moves outside set limits. With fund status near the danger line, June and July expenses could raise fares to four cents for transfers. April transfers totaled 27,401,694.
Senator William O'Connell Bradley of Kentucky died at his apartment in Falkstone Grigesby after a long illness with araemic poisoning and complications. He had been unconscious most of the prior day and was visited by his daughter Mrs J G South and other relatives.
H. T. Thompson once a prosperous farmer in Greenville Ohio was convicted of criminal assault on his daughter and sentenced to die in the electric chair for Friday July 31.
The first full conference between mediators and both the American and Mexican delegates was held in Niagara Falls Ontario. It was arranged at the Mexican delegates request after informal meetings earlier in the day. Proceedings are in secret and followed consultations with South American mediators.
Rev. Louis R. Patmont, long missing since a March 31 prohibition meeting in Westville Illinois, was found bound and gagged in an abandoned farmhouse near Columbia Illinois. He says he was abducted that night and held in a cellar until his release.
In Preston Minnesota on May 23 a fire at the local brewery occurred during a dry picnic celebrating prohibition victory. Attendees rushed to help and the brewery was saved with only minor losses as liquor sales remain prohibited while manufacture continues.
Sperril Dispatch reports the California Railroad Commission reluctantly approves further borrowing by United Railroads for rolling stock after finding directors authorized Calhoun to disburse funds. It notes a 1913 withdrawal of 1,096,000 for Solano Irrigated Farms, with no proof funds reached the project. Calhoun denies misusing railroad money and says he will explain after the commission report.
Zelma Young, 13, daughter of Thomas Young, wealthy Boyle County farmer, found with hisbed in Lexington after a suspected robbery. A razor and a San Antonio dealer hat were found, suggesting strangulation to silence screams. No suspect, father alerted by a noise, and regional sentiment runs high pending capture.

A subcommittee of miners and coal operators meeting in Charleston, Kanawha coal field, reported to the Geral Committee that no satisfactory wage and condition scale could be formed. This signals a strike by the United Mine Workers of America. The Cabsh and Paint Creek districts, previously under militia duty, are included.
Florence Italy May 23 A Florentine art student Pietro Rossi 24 confessed to fatally shooting and robbing Mary Flavelie of Chicago on a Florence to Assisi train after gambling away almost all his money. He said he attacked a well dressed passenger when she screamed and fired in a moment of panic.
Paris Kentucky reports the Bank of George Alexander & Co failed after Banking Commissioner Thomas J. Smith ordered closure. President George Alexander was arrested, receivership by Buckner Woodford Sr. cites ruin and rising debts beyond 300000 dollars. Grand jury to hear case June 8.
A northwest storm ripped through Hamburg causing widespread damage. Falling trees collapsed roofs, aeroplane sheds at Puhlsbuttel were ruined, ships tore from moorings, and a factory chimney at Neumuhlen killed three workers with two more badly hurt. A Kiel dispatch adds further storm details.
