Representative Pujo announces he will push a compulsory bill before the Senate. The measure, already passed by the House, would grant investigators unlimited authority to compel information from national banking institutions including state banks like the Fidelity Trust of Buffalo if they hold securities of a national bank.

James Boylan of Providence Rhode Island was shot dead at 136 West 129th Street in a boarding house. Richard Geib of Stamford Connecticut denied knowledge of the crime after detectives found a rifle in his room and a blood spattered suit. Coroner Feinberg called for legal action as investigators piece together the motive and circumstance.
Charles W. Morse and his wife returned from Europe aboard a passenger list listing them as Mr. and Mrs. Morris. Morse said his plans to reenter business depend on health, noting rests in Europe improved him. He toured Italy and Germany and spent final weeks at Wiesbaden baths with a doctor predicting he may live a long time.
Dr J M Gilbert of English Carroll County Ky indicted for misdemeanor after grand jury heard witnesses claim he plotted to hire Charles Rose to kill his wife Mrs Gilbert. Gilbert held on $2000 bond. Mrs Gilbert filed for divorce and attached all property.
Washington May 22 Taft asserts he will enter Chicago with 570 pledged delegates thirty more than the needed majority to nominate. He plans a New Jersey campaign swing after a Cleveland statement he will have at least seventeen Ohio votes and a majority of the national convention. Roosevelt backers expect to carry all New Jersey districts per Senator Dixon.
McKinley of the Taft national campaign bureau released a statement asserting Taft will have at least 600 delegates in the Chicago convention. He notes Ohio primary strength solidifies Taft support and Roosevelt and Cummins losses in New York Iowa bolster Taft.
President Taft prolongs his campaign schedule after Ohio returns. He will deliver ten speeches Tuesday morning from Atlantic City to Philadelphia. He plans rallies in New Jersey including Camden Burlington and Trenton tomorrow night before continuing the tour.
Massachusetts becomes the first state to ratify the constitutional amendment for direct election of U S senators. The senate approved the measure after the house passed the resolution, following Secretary Knox's proclamation to the states.
Philadelphia May 22 After a forty four day idle period the 170000 anthracite mine workers resume work under the new wage agreement. It is expected that mining will return to normal in a week or two.
Columbus May 22 Delegates to the constitutional convention expect to extend the final adjournment beyond May 29 after a two week recess. Debates focus on initiative and referendum liquor licenses good roads and jury powers in civil cases. A farewell banquet for delegates and friends was held tonight.
London May 2 Emmeline Pankhurst and Mr and Mrs Pethick Lawrence were found guilty of conspiracy and inciting to malicious damage to property at the Old Bailey sessions They received nine months imprisonment and were ordered to pay trial costs The verdict drew mixed reaction from women in court as they were removed.
In Los Angeles on May 22 the search for a thirteenth juror or alternate in Clarence S. Darrow's trial for alleged jury bribing proved the toughest task. Twelve jurors were seated by noon. ten more were examined without success, as the thirteenth member would only join if a regular juror fell ill.
The RB F Goodrich company of Akron secured permission from Secretary Graves to reduce capital stock from 20 million to 200 thousand dollars. As a foreign corporation, it was incorporated in New York and two weeks ago formed in Ohio with capital stock of 45 million dollars.
Colonel Roosevelt celebrated Ohio’s open primary result and planned a final push in New Jersey. He touted a nationwide win record and dismissed attempts to unseat delegates, aiming to finish his nomination campaign with strong New Jersey results.

Walter R. Fisher secretary of the interior told the Senate committee on public lands that building a railroad from tidewater to the Yukon valley is vital for Alaska’s future development He cited coal deposits in the Matanuska and Bering river fields and urged opening the area under a leasing system to bring coal to tidewater He favored government absorption of the Alaskan Central railway.
C D Marshall president of McClintic Marshall Construction testifies in the government case against the steel trust. He says American Bridge Company a Steel subsidiary furnished about 70 percent of the bridge steel work nationwide contracted for the last year. He adds his firm does business with many railroad lines. He lists over sixteen principal lines.
Mr. Marshall testified that McClintic Marshall is building Panama Canal rocks weighing 55 600 tons each. He said the firm won the job in open competition with the American Bridge Company on these roads.
J B Pearce of the J B Pearce Wall Paper Co Cleveland testified in federal court in Cleveland Ohio as a defendant in the Sherman antitrust case against eight wall paper manufacturers and jobbers He and others deny any agreement not to sell to five and ten cent stores as charged by the government
Freeport Pennsylvania May 22 Warehouses Nos 3 and 5 of the Schenley Distilling company at Schenley near Freeport were destroyed by fire. Loss on buildings bonded whisky and barrels is estimated at 200000 and fully covered by insurance. The fire built a lake of burning whisky around the warehouses as volunteer firemen struggled to control it. Fire apparatus was sent from Pittsburgh.
Prince Traidos, newly appointed Siamese minister to the United States, delivered his credentials to President Taft in Washington on May 22. The ceremony marks the start of formal diplomatic relations between Siam and the United States.

Taft Roosevelt LaFollette and Wilson campaign in Jersey City and West Hoboken with twenty eight delegates at stake including four at large and two per district. L C Laylin Taft leader claims 11 of 42 district delegates with possible two more plus six delegates at large to be named June 3. Roosevelt strength spans mining urban and farming areas, with Brown conceding five districts to Taft. Harmon and Wilson factions shape late delegate counts as Ohio GOP braces for convention battles.
New Jersey executive Wilson leads Harmon by a slim margin as fractions remain to report in Tuesday's primary. In Ohio Hamilton state coverage notes Burnett defeated for coroner by Krone and Dillon losing to former subordinate Hammerle in Butler County race. Burns renominated over Bickley with Braun in the wings.
