Dayton Ohio May 20 a reconditioned Martin bomber will carry 2100 pounds of freight from Wright Field to Scott Field Belleville Illinois marking the first time a plane is used solely to transport freight. Lieuts C E Thomas and Winfield S Hamlin will pilot the flight departing 7 30 am and landing about 11 am Wednesday as officials test time cost and speed for potential air freight service.
An electric sun valve using selenium was described to automate traffic signals by switching current with changing light. A committee report also noted that 12 to 15 percent of industrial accidents are due to poor illumination and defective vision.

Harry K Thaw returned to New York City after seven and a half years abroad and pleaded not guilty to two indictments charging assault and kidnapping of Frederick Gump Jr in 1916 He was released on bail and later arraigned on a conspiracy charge related to taking Gump out of jurisdiction. A large crowd gathered as detectives served bench warrants and Thaw awaited further bail adjustments. Gump may testify, aiding the case.
Senator Howell of Nebraska renewed the fight against four Federal Farm Loan Board nominees after a Banking Committee report, alleging mismanagement and unlawful fund handling. Senator Glass defended committee approval, while Howell cited lack of complete books and questioned the board’s procedures and records.
A buck dashed into a car on a forest highway near Berlin blinding the driver. The chauffeur was killed and the car owner and his wife were seriously injured. The deer and animal horn became tangled in the steering gear, steering failure led to the crash. Passersby rescued the couple hours later.

Ronald C. Oldham, a prominent Louisville attorney and former Democratic lieutenant governor candidate, received a two year term at Atlanta Penitentiary after a Covington federal court ruling. He was found guilty of conspiring to free Jack Mason from jail, with forged bonds and an invalid notary signature. Mason later died in the Ohio State Penitentiary.

In Winnipeg on May 20, Frank Martin robbed the Goulding and Portage avenue branch of the Bank of Montreal during lunch. A pursuing force of detectives and motorcycle police cornered him after a running gunfight, ending when a bullet struck him in the head. The stolen car crashed near a telephone pole as the bandit dropped the cash, about 2000 dollars, of bank notes recovered. A bank customer alerted police during the robbery.

At Budapest University during a general anatomy lecture, four Jewish students were threatened with death by fellow students who demanded Jewish corpses for dissection. Prof. Bugarszky protested as attendants helped four Jewish students escape after minor bruises. The university senate planned to expel the unruly students.
