Passengers on the American Line steamer Philadelphia arriving from New York faced anxiety at sea off the west coast of Ireland. A cruiser approached and exchanged signals prompting passengers to sleep with life belts handy as boats remained ready. officials checked for spies but detained none.
The St Paul of the American Line arrived from Liverpool with 217 cabin and 106 steerage passengers. Captain Passow reported seeing bodies and liferafts from the Lusitania disaster off the Irish coast on May 9. The remaining two men were not yet identified.
Geneva May 16 aviators of the allies have inflicted damages exceeding $2,000,000 on Strassburg tanneries producing material for the German army.

Bernstorff notes Dernburg told him of his decision and emphasizes Dernburg is a private citizen leaving at his own volition.
