Renew Mountain Battle Fires General Along Seven Mile Front

Heavy firing resumed along both sides of the Tug River from Rawl to McCarr creating a seven mile front. Three deputy sheriffs and state police moved in to quell the clash as reports said three men were killed and about forty miners surrounded in their camps. Women and children hid in shelters amid the blast as authorities raced to restore order.

Driver in fatal crash held on manslaughter charge

Edward Kohnen, 26, of 135 West Seventh Street, facing manslaughter after his car hit Alma Steman, 14, at Gilbert and Elsinore avenues, causing her death. Bond set at 25000, continued to May 17. bond signed by Edward J. Harth who agreed to sign up to 150000. Kohnen previously bound over on manslaughter in a West End death.

Bergdoll Mother Refuses Gold Location Details

Mrs Em ma Bergdoll mother of Grover Bergdoll draft dodger told a House Investigating Committee she burned 105000 dollars in gold from the Treasury in 1919 and refused to reveal burial site or current location. She said the gold remains in the same place she first buried it and indicated it was not near Hagerstown. She claimed no lawyer and said she had sent 10000 to Grover in Germany and had no further information.

Clash in Morelia Kills Fifty Catholic Protesters

In Morelia Michoacan yesterday police and radicals clashed with Catholic demonstrators over desecration of churches. Fifty people were killed and about twenty were wounded as police led by Coyt fired on crowds while General Garcia and Governor Mugica moved to restore order. Socialist leader Isaac Arriaga was among the dead.

Benny Kauff Acquitted in New York Auto Larceny Case

Benny Kauff, suspended New York Giants outfielder, was acquitted by a jury in General Sessions on charges of larceny of an automobile dated December 8, 1919. The jury found him not guilty on all counts after brief deliberations, with Kauff testifying he did not steal the car and that a purchase bill of sale proved title.

Washington reports a broad Pacific search failed to locate the naval tug Conestoga which departed San Francisco bound for Samoa via Hawaii on March 25. Rear Admiral Shoemaker at Honolulu says fifteen ships and several aircraft have combed 600 miles since May 2 amid unverified sighting rumors. The tug under Lieutenant E. L. Jones carried a 49 man crew and three other officers.

Electric current kills Lockland minister in cellar

The Rev Charles F Hardy 48 pastor of the Lockland Gospel Mission was electrocuted while working on electric wiring in the cellar of his home at 401 Wyoming avenue He reportedly suffered a stroke in his left arm and hand and grasped a live wire as damp flooring aided the fatal circuit Coroner Handley and Dr N Q Cooper attended the scene confirming death

Police and citizens scour Kentucky hills for assailant

Police and citizens from Newport Southgate and Clifton Kentucky searched hills near their towns for a man who attacked 21 year old Mrs Albert Best of 925 York Street Newport on Lindsey road Southgate yesterday afternoon. The assailant knocked her down stole her purse and fled over a fence. A description circulated and a reward is expected. Local volunteers joined the search amid high tensions.

Four Soldiers Killed By Condemned Gunpowder Blast

Four enlisted men of the Seventh Ord nance Depot at Ft. Sill Okla were killed when 500 pounds of condemned black gunpowder exploded prematurely. Search found only fragments as night fell. Washington May 13 The Tin­der bill to regulate grain futures passed the House and Senate by 269 to 69. It imposes a 20 cent per bushel tax on puts calls ups and downs and on futures contracts made outside designated contract markets. Frank Anderson an insurance agent aged 50 at 1920 Cleneay Avenue Norwood was struck by a United States mail truck on Gilbert avenue Bloody Run. He sustained a fracture of the right leg and severe facial cuts. Dr E B Gray at 828 Buena Vista Place treated him and he was taken to General Hospital.

Crowds gathered as flames consume whisky in Covington last night. Spectators attempted to drink the spray from a fire hose highball while flames surged around burning whisky cases and firemen fought the blaze. A bystander joked about tasting firewater after a spark was trapped between his teeth.
