Jealous suitor shoots in office killing woman then shoots self
Orville Thompson, spurned by his former sweetheart Anna Schwemlein, shot her in I N Price & Co wholesale provisions office at 224 West Sixth street after being denied a theater companion. He then fired at himself, wounding scalp above the left eye, and collapsed in an elevator. Schwemlein died en route to City Hospital. Thompson may have feigned unconsciousness. Mrs Schwemlein’s daughter and viewers described his obsessive behavior and multiple visits to the office prior to the killing.

Bereaved Mother Kidnaps Girl in St Louis Case
Hellas Matter, four year old daughter of A. B. Matter, disappeared from Carr Park Sunday and was found in Granite City Illinois. Josephine Goady, 19, and Sheldon Cobb, 27, were arrested after she confessed. The woman said she married last year to a man named Savage, separated after learning of another wife, and took the child to satisfy a resemblance to her late daughter. The girl sat on the suspect’s knee when detectives located her.
