Tobacco Beds Destroyed by Night Riders in Mason County
Night riders destroyed Charles C. Degman tobacco beds in eastern Mason County after slipping past his guard. Degman had warned of danger weeks earlier and had run for State Legislature on an anti Equity platform. Equity Society claims the Tobacco Trust uses brokers to place large pooled orders in the Burley belt. Fayette County and Franklin County boards report major orders for hogsheads, suggesting much of the pooled crop will be sold. Prices for 1907 pooled crop deemed unlikely to rise, as the 1905 and 1906 crops are liquidating.
