Columbus May 12 No immunity will be granted to General Assembly members in the Senate bribery committee inquiry says Chairman Senator John E Todd of Columbus The committee will not interfere with the Franklin County grand jury and will pursue prosecutions where indicated The grand jury adjourned without indictments and will reconvene Monday morning as prosecutors prepare for trials next week involving indicted legislators and others including George Nye L R Andrews and Rodney Droegle

Farmers Hire Lawyers to Advise in Reciprocity Fight

N P Hull head of the Grangers told the senate finance committee that lawyers would appear next week to answer questions about the groups’ tariff literature. Plume Case Leads to Arrest in Middletown Milliner

Two female detectives from Norwood, Ora Chaney and Mamie Schneider, arrested Kate Gough of Middletown for selling and possessing an heron plume in violation of the law. At Coke Otto Squire Warwick fined Miss Gough 25 dollars plus costs. the case may go to the common pleas court.

Fire Destroys Barn Tobacco Shed In Eaton Area

A large barn tobacco shed and several animals were destroyed by fire early Friday morning near Newhope in Eaton. Three horses and several hogs burned, causing about 3000 dollars in damage to James Jenkins. The blaze origin is listed as unknown.

Merida Sunk After Collision Off Cape Charles

The Ward line steamer Merida carrying 319 aboard sank in 35 fathoms of water after a collision with the fruit steamer Admiral Farragut in dense fog near Cape Charles. All aboard were rescued, with one seriously injured woman, wife of A. Peon, among the survivors. The Farragut remained afloat with damage to its port bow as rescue ships transported passengers to Norfolk and the Hamilton.

Cincinnati boosters end West Virginia Kentucky trip with Portsmouth banquet

The Cincinnati Commercial association's 100 member trade delegation completed a strenuous tour stopping in 51 towns across West Virginia Kentucky and Southern Ohio. Portsmouth hosted a 1 hour auto tour and a Washington hotel banquet with Mayor Schwab Safety Director Small and many local officials. The visit featured speeches by Judge Osborn Mayor Searcy and other prominent figures before the group returned home.
